fleeing ghost features original compositions for guitar, trumpet, and cello. the music was composed over a roughly 2-year period (fall '02-spring '03) by daniel raimi, and is performed by daniel, mike heald (trumpet), and erica sattin (cello). each composition is intended to deal with a certain state of mind or emotion, with a general emphasis on slow, non-virtuosic performances. the music includes some improvisation, but is primarily notated.
the music is inspired from many sources, mostly being non-musical. some musical influences include (smog), whose song "red apples" is featured, john fahey, anthony braxton, jim o'rourke, paul motian, and many others. the music is intended to be open-ended, so that listeners can decide for themselves the intentions of each piece. the tempos range from drowsy to paranoid. some tunes follow strict structural guidelines while others do not.
fleeing ghost ascribes to no boundaries with regard to music or anything else, and hopes the music will reflect such a mindset. most of all, we hope listeners enjoy and can gain from our music. please have a listen. thanks.

Clean, Evocative, Unpretentious
author: Richard Dunlap
Melancholy and comforting at the same time. Not about hooks or flash. No avant-garde pretention (not that there's anything wrong with that). This music is not for everyone, but you'll know right away from the samples if it's for you.
This CD found a special place in my heart and there are times when nothing else will do than to melt into this gentle, evocative sound. I find the instrumental combination of guitar, trumpet and cello to be unique and inspired. To my mind, this music belongs to a revolution in attitude towards musical expression that really excites me. Jazz, classical, impressionist, Americana... these things can be heard here, but this is no pasted together collage of styles. It is a unique expression.
The only reason I've given this 4 stars instead of 5 is in the expectation that further music from this trio will earn it's 5 stars. I'd like to hear the compositional style stretched a little bit, if that's possible without losing it's essence. And I'd like to hear more of the cello.
These suggestions do not imply that this CD falls short in any way. I thoroughly appreciate it, and just want to encourage Fleeing Ghost to keep it going. If you like the sound, I hope you'll support these good folks.
