Tired of listening to the same holy hip-hop? Your prayers have been answered. Man of God himself, Flexx, is back and serving up some serious rhymes for the sold out saint. The Stellar Award nominated artist's current project, Soul Survivor, will bless the spirit of today's urban Christian.
Opening with an intense ex-communication skit, Flexx lays out the format for his project. Straight out the gate he brings it with "God's the Boss," "Praise Him," and the title track "Soul Survivor." "God's the Boss", featuring BB Jay and Hogg Boss, has that "California Love" flavor with that reminiscent Roger Troutman flare by way of synthesizer.
Straight up adoration is what "Praise Him" is all about. Once you offered up sacrifices of praise you'll be set up to understand about being a true "Soul Survivor". Its heavy metal intro says "get prepared", and Flexx hums with an explosion of words of scripture-based warning.
Then he tickles the mind with "Murder", tossing out profound simple phrases such as "hell is murder", and reminding that we have the power to choose heaven or hell by our actions and deeds. "Time Is Running Out," "He's Real to Me" and "Set Free" are other highlights you don't want to gloss over. On each, Flexx sounds off lyrically as he digs into spiritual truths.
"God's Hit Man" is hot! Got a problem? Call the hit man. Got an issue? Call the hit man. Collaborating with BB Jay again, it's pounding beats and rippin' lyrics that allow you to spiritual see Flexx flex his anointed vocals. The cuts' message can be broken down to any seasoned saint by merely saying, "This battle is not ours, it belongs to the Lord."
For the true old school fan, Flexx has a throwback flow with "Old School Storm." With Kurtis Blow influence, Angela Brimmage and Arthur Mance add some vocal seasoning to make it a memorable affair.
Flexx's 18-track offering proves why he is a soul survivor. Mixing the old with the new, and remaining true to the gift that The Father has given him. This project is sure to be something modern hip-hop lovers will hail.
