I've said it before and I'll say it again: Canadian hip hop is on the up and up. In this shining representation, we're treated to a fully focused MC from up North, an unassuming lyricist from Ottawa whose penchant for verbal intricacies is mirrored perfectly by the beats that back him. Displaying a comfortability with a wide array of styles, each beat is forged as a challenge, demanding that the lyrics and flow rise to the occasion. He's up for it, bobbing and weaving from track to track, mixing up the content of the dialog but never slipping when it comes to the delivery. The key here is diversity, as it's this element that streams through the songs and prevents the feel of the album from going stale. The beat tempos fluctuate, the guest spots are wisely spread out and effective in the song structures, the production is spot on and dense, and any inklings of hook heavy pandering is left to the wayside. Along with this, the lyrical content is wise but not overly heavy, knowing its bounds. If you fancy yourself a fan of indie or alternative hip hop (it's becoming harder to define, I know), give this one a shot. It won't disappoint.
