I thought it might be helpful for our community to have more information about the origins of Floor Tracks. My name is Ryan Inselman and I am a full-time musician. I play drums in a Minnesota-based band called GB Leighton. This is a nationally recognized rock/country band that has been in full swing for over 15 years. For Minnesota Twins fans, this year GB Leighton recorded the theme song "Twins Territory." In addition to performing, I compose and record music at 3 studios in the Twin Cities area along with creating, recording and managing as the owner of Floor Tracks. The idea for Floor Tracks came around about 12 years ago in a heated conversation between my little sister and myself. At the time, she was 13 and the beam champion in Minnesota for Sauk Rapids High School and I was disappointed with some of the music I was hearing while watching her meets: While the music was functional for the gymnast's performance, it was not always musically appealing for the listener. It seemed to me that music for floor choreography could be approached in a more creative, enticing and entertaining fashion which would not only be more appealing to the crowd, but also heighten the gymnast's performance. My sister now manages a successful gym and has helped guide me this past year in exploring how to use my passion for writing music specifically for gymnastic choreography.
The music you hear is written and recorded by a team of writers that I have gotten to know professionally and personally over the years. Casey Smith is a phenomenal guitarist and engineer who I was privileged to perform and become friends with In the Jesse Lang Band (i.e. Jessica Langseth: American Idol finalist in season 8). Anything you hear ROCK in our collection is Casey and I! Anything you hear that is percussion driven is Tom Pickard and myself. He is a master at getting great, organic percussive sounds. Anything you hear that is electronic or orchestral sounding is Jeremy Schreifels, who is a great friend of mine from the percussion program at St. Could State University. On the country side of things, we have Luke Kramer, long time guitarist in G.B. Leighton and father of his own little gymnast Anna Lee. When you hear piano you hear Mark Wight: He is a jazz piano major and a predominant performer in the Twin Cities area! Three more additions to our writing staff include Jeffrey Vigness, Tomas Hanson and Ben Anderson. Jeffrey has his degree in composition and is a distinguished performer and teacher in the area. Thomas is a true club/dance music creator and will add that high energy music to our library. Ben is a creative mind that will add to our "movie sounding" tracks That's our team!
