Album Notes

Flo Paris started performing at the age of three, and hasn't stopped since. Encouraged by a large, musical family, Flo would perform Whitney Houston songs, accompanied by her Father on guitar. Back then it was Whitney, Amy Grant and Annie, but by the age of ten the score of Annie had given way to the piano, and four years later she picked up the guitar.

Flo honed her vocal talents during two years of formal music studies and five years singing in Madrigals, Concert Choirs and vocal Jazz ensembles. She wrote and performed an original Jazz composition for the ACSI Musicale competition in Pasadena, California in March of 1998, and spent the next five years writing and leading worship music as well as playing original pieces in churches in California and Tennessee. During these years she was influenced musically by artists as diverse as Sarah McLachlan, vocalist Crystal Lewis, James Taylor, Counting Crows, and the piano stylings of Ben Folds.

In addition to her solo work, Flo finished singing in a rare series of live shows with progressive rock powerhouse Glass Hammer, including shows in Nashville, Rhythm and Brews in Chattanooga, an appearance at the NEARfest 2003 progressive rock festival in New Jersey during June of 2003, an appearance at the "Past Watchful Dragons" conference at Belmont University in November 2005, and most recently a double concert event at the Tivoli in Chattanooga, TN this past October.

Flo's unique folk-influenced singer-songwriter style is well suited to small, intimate venues like bookstores and coffee shops, where she is now taking her music. Flo's first full length album entitled, "Practice Room" is now available through www.floparis.net.

"There is much passion in Flo's voice, yet a sweet innocence resides there as well. In contrast, her lyrics seem drawn from deep wells of wisdom. Her haunting melodies are a match, and linger on in memory. Seldom does a singer / songwriter have the perfect combination of great songs and a great voice to match. Flo has the perfect combination."
-Steve Babb of Glass Hammer

breathtakingly beautiful in its pureness and simplicity

If you are already familiar with Flo Paris' vocal work with Glass Hammer, and even if you are not, you are in for a real treat and a great listening experience. The folk acoustic style of her music is breathtakingly beautiful in its pureness and simplicity. There's a genuinely, heartfelt sincerity in her vocals that greatly compliments the spiritual nature of the lyrics. The songs, while acoustic, are diverse in style ranging from the upbeat, catchy, pop tempo and flowing, classical-guitar driven rhythms of Restless Night to the graceful, haunting flowing piano track, Live. Flo's lyric writing also stands out as being unique for a debut release. It doesn't rely on the cliche phrases heard in so much Christian music and presents the spiritual aspects of faith through the lens of everyday life experiences that anyone can relate to. The lyrics like the vocals have the sincerity of real experience and observation the world around us and will be as strong of a connecting points for fans as the music.

folky, pure, breathy vocal style. Sparse instrumentation keeps the vocals up front. Messages of humility, human doubt and mercy. Highly recommended!
