Vegetables never sounded so good. Aguilar's masterful guitar work and lively arrangement, along with the percussive brilliance of Mingo Lewis, conjures images of blue skies, deep azure waters, a plethora of vegetation, flowers in bloom promising lush tomatoes, upo heavy on the vine. Their rendition of Nonoy Gallardo’s “Saranggola ni Pepe” is hip, cool & explosive fun. The classic “Sa Ugoy ng Duyan” is magnificently haunting. “Sitsiritsit/Pen Pen Di Sarapen” is a wonderfully complex, richly textured take on the children’s nursery rhyme. And Aguilar’s original “Dalampasigan” is dramatic, beautifully intriguing and bittersweet.
Throughout the album Abucayan serenades with a lilting voice full of sweetness and heart, while Aguilar demonstrates, once again, his artful command of the guitar and deep understanding and love of Filipino music.
