Album Notes

................
80 MINUTES OF PURE INTOXICATING AND ADDICTING SOUNDS.
(visit www.FLOYDHEAD.com for more details)

"Inventive and Avant-Garde. The mystery, the awe, and the complex thought behind the original songs have been kept intact. As an abstract painter from the renaissance portrays his view of timeless objects, I have done so with the music of Pink Floyd."

DETAILS:
Floydhead is a collective of DJ's, musicians and graphic artists under the guidance of "Seth." The Floydian Propulsion Project (The Artistic Electronica of Pink Floyd) takes samples from every studio album released by Pink Floyd, then remixes, warps, distorts and channels the non-conformist, anti-establishment spirit of the band into a wholly original creation of artistic merit and style. This is more than just a loving tribute to Pink Floyd; this is collaboration between a generation of musicians raised on cutting edge technology with a band whose sound is synonymous with classic rock.

THE FLOYDIAN PROPULSION PROJECT:
Imagine, if you will, that you live not here, on this Earth, but someplace else (a place whose distance from your earthly office or bedroom wouldn't be measured in miles, but in light years). And on this planet far, far away, you had the short band equivalent of on interstellar receiver through which you could tune into the broadcasts of a 1,000 million civilizations scattered throughout the universe. And on this night, you turn your attention, for the first time, to a spot on the dial you'd never been. An ancient frequency, from a location on the far shores of a distant galaxy.

As you tune through the static of gamma ray bursts and radiation being emitted by neutron stars, the disorder on your speakers is soon replaced by the conscious construction of sound from an advanced civilization. It has taken millennia for these transmissions to cross the vast expanse of space that separates you from this place unseen, unknown - from a planet that very probably no longer exists, swallowed by the expansion of its own star.

A kaleidoscopic quilt of voices, melodies and instruments echoes in your dimly lit room. You calibrate your universal translator and hear sounds that you recognize as parody, irony, and playfulness. Boundaries between high and low forms of art are non-existent. You experience fragmentation and discontinuity. Tonight's transmission is destructured, decentered.

Though you can't know it in your world far removed from the source of original broadcast, you are experiencing a continuum from early television and music to Moog culture and DJ scratching, looping and sampling. Snippets from SciFi programs, classic movies and celebrations of consumer culture fill the space between the stars. In the midst of this glittery rubbish, however, is the recognizable sound of the universal constant - music. Emotional, visceral, sacred. The chaotic compendium of a lost civilization held together by lines of recognizable melody, lyric and song. Layers of complimentary instrumentation heaped upon the land fill of another planet's pop-culture. The musical samples are from the band Pink Floyd. The commercials and comedy and drama are the collective effort of 70 years of human endeavor in broadcasting.

As the two moons of your planet compete for space in the frame of your window, you lay back on your bed, amazed at the creativity of the these creatures hundreds of light years from your own world, and call your new discovery "The Floydian Propulsion Project."

On Making The Floydian Propulsion Project (The Artistic Electronica of Pink Floyd/3rd Edition)

"I was inspired to experiment with electronica...to mold these pieces using various shades of trance music, dance music, catchy-grooves, progressions, psychedelia, and conceptual art-based music. All-the-while maintaining a marginal pop-music structure.

As an obsessed Pink Floyd fan, I had everything of theirs. So I went to the next level; I studied Pink Floyd as if it were a subject in college. Then I started experimenting by combining computers and music, and Pink Floyd naturally fell in-between the two. What started as a few demos turned into a full blown quest to make a Pink Floyd remix album. I experimented and experimented, and kept what was really cool. I tried many things many different ways, and got some friends involved in parts of it. I ran into many learning-curve road blocks, such as the art of mastering, but in time overcame them. The 1st edition was 50 limited numbered CD's that I handed out to my friends and family. The positive feedback from those 50 gave me the inspiration to polish it up and make the 2nd edition - 200 copies. Those who got the 2nd edition gave me such great feedback that I had to release it to the masses... Polished it to perfection, and that's what is available now, the 3rd Edition.

I invite you to take an extended stay when listening to this disc. Ensure you are comfortable at all levels... make certain that your mind is at ease. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the sounds."

"Like all of the finest things on earth, there is an acquired taste to this music. However, your first listen will stimulate your subconscious to yearn for more.

An open-mind will find there is much more to this album than entertainment. Even the most basic interest in Pink Floyd will provoke thought... in turn, yielding a taste in the art of all that is Floydian..."

I love every track on this album except the first one. Somehow, the scratching and rapping in that first track just don't fit. I made a CD without the first track and I love it. It's in heavy daily rotation on my CD changer. So glad I stumbled on it. So, skip that first track and dig an amazing dance extension to the Pink Floyd sound. Floydian Propulsion, indeed!!!

As a self confessed Pink Floyd freak, this CD did not disappoint. I also happen to like a bit of techno but this is a beautiful blend of Floyd and techno, that should also appeal to the space cadets and juvenile types with its inclusion of 'classic lines' from 2001, Simpsons, Ace Ventura and so on. In short, it is great tool for exploring that fine line between sanity and insanity in the fine traditions of Syd - just what do you think you are doing Dave. Enjoy the trip through the wormhole. Signed the Computer - I think I'm losing my mind!
