Brainy electronica transcends techno stereotypes.

I've had the privelege of actually jamming with Fluffy Porcupine, and I can confidently state that the musicality displayed by this album is not a fluke of sequencing and sampling.
The tracks are generally tuneful and smart, with emphasis on an understated, minimalistic aesthetic. The jazz-influenced tracks are gems -- "Manic Swing" and "Five/Five" time prove that Fluffy Porcupine is not your backyard-variety techno kiddie, sequencing banal four-on-the-floor beats or borrowing breakbeats from other, smarter artists.
I'm not much of an electronica fan, and I'll admit that "Pointed Little Quill" isn't the most listened-to disc in my collection, but it's a smart, tight piece of work that does what it sets out to do. Four stars to Fluffy Porcupine's first promising release.
