Album Notes

John Fluker is an intense fusion of God-given talent and well-honed skill. A potent brew of vocalist, musician, songwriter, producer, arranger and teacher, he has extensive experience on the stage and in the studio. His goal is to share his gift of music, not only through his original compositions, but also by teaching others to explore their own musical abilities.
Born in Lansing, Michigan, John grew up listening to the dynamic and spiritually-charged harmonies of his church choir, which he joined as a teenager. The gospel background provided John the humility he demonstrates regarding his gifts. John garnered technical skill, traditional training and a strong work ethic at the University of Michigan where he received his Bachelor Degree in Music. However, his musical sensibilities have been accented by more contemporary and secular artists as well.
John is currently Gladys Knight’s musical director and has toured internationally as a pianist/vocalist during which, he performed for President Bill Clinton and First Lady Hillary Rodham-Clinton. Gladys Knight and the Saints Unified Voices’ 2006 Grammy nominated “One Voice” CD features John singing the duet with Gladys Knight entitled “Did You Know,” as well as leading “He’s Worthy,” contributing as a writer on “He Shines On Me,” and sharing in the co-arrangements of the various hymns. John’s new instrumental piano CD “The Sound Of Peace” features all original compositions setting a meditative mood for the spirit conscious. The compositions Asleep Beneath The Moon Part One and Two evoke similar musical expressions as heard from the popular Twilight movie. Fans of Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, etc. will enjoy the mysterious and romantic connection. John’s musical collaborative work with Kelly Eisenhour, “Parley Great Escape” debuted recently at BYU in conjunction with Campus Education week. John has also performed as a side musician for Dionne Warwick, Oleta Adams, Queen Latifah, Boyz II Men, David Hasselhoff, Brenda Russell, Stephanie Mills, Sam Harris, Mavis Staples, Whoopi Goldberg, Regina Belle and Hinton Battle. He has been a featured soloist with the Carson Symphony Orchestra and has accompanied the Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Jenifer Lewis in “Now What?” as musical director.
John has performed on television’s "2006 Nobel Peace Prize Concert," “Good Morning America,” “The Tonight Show,” “Lou Rawl’s Parade of Stars,” “Donny & Marie,” “Sinbad’s HBO Summer Jam,” Rosie O’Donnell,” “Regis & Kathy Lee,” “Roseanne Show,” “Soul Train Awards,” “Living Single,” “Fox After Breakfast,” “Welcome Home with Clifton Davis on PTL,”(musical director) and Ed McMahon’s “Star Search,” where he won the Best Male Vocalist category.
John also works as a vocal coach and is featured in Seth Rigg’s “Singing For The Stars.” He has coached many clients including Jennifer Lopez, Roselyn Sanchez, Devon Aoki, Kim Fields, Mary Hart and Florence LaRue (of The Fifth Dimension).

A Perfect Title!
author: Kathy Parsons
“The Sound of Peace” is the debut solo recording by John Fluker, but he is no newcomer to the music scene. The list of albums that he has played on and the artists that he has toured with is very impressive, and he is currently Music Director for Gladys Knight. The fourteen tracks on this CD were composed during the night, Fluker’s favorite time to play the piano. Fluker’s father encouraged him and told him repeatedly that his playing was very relaxing and soothing to him. When his father passed away last year, Fluker was inspired to compose this CD. Primarily a piano CD, Fluker has embellished most of the compositions with synth washes - strings, nature sounds, etc. - but these sounds enhance the mood and are never overbearing. As the title implies, the music on “The Sound of Peace” is warm and serene, encouraging the listener to float away on the gentle melodies. Also a teacher, producer, arranger, and vocal coach, Fluker’s background in classical, traditional, and gospel music blend together to give him a unique musical voice. All of the tracks on this CD are beautiful and easy to listen to, but I have a few favorites. “Asleep Beneath the Moon (Part 1)” is very tranquil and also suggests the feeling of wonder at looking up at the night sky and seeing all those millions of stars. “Part 2” of this piece is quite a bit longer and more exploratory - wonderful! “Journey of A Soul” is also gorgeous and oh, so soothing. The warmth of this piece is almost an inviting musical hug that lingers - I really love this one! “The Hollow Earth” is a bit darker and more introspective, but is still very peaceful. The sound of flowing water enhances the mood as Fluker explores the piano keyboard with a bit more improvisation on this one. The title track is much more ambient than melodic, and carries you away on a caress of sound. “Through New Eyes” has a strong message of renewal and hope. “Life Begins” opens with the sounds of birds and the piano and evolves into a lovely soundtrack to spring or any form of new life. The sound on this one is full and lush and conjures up many visual images. As you can see, “The Sound of Peace” covers a lot of musical and emotional terrain, and yet the overall mood of the album is quite consistent. It’s a wonderful backdrop for other activities, but opens up more each time you actively listen to it. Give your ears and mind a treat! Highly recommended.

This CD is amazing. The songs are so beautiful. I listen to it at work, on the way home from work, while doing my homework, and even when I am doing housework! This CD occupies my senses just enough, so I feel like I am not "working" at all.

A great CD, a great talent, and a great person!

Because I already knew his talent and work, I bought 10 without hearing it first. I did so, so that I would have one myself after family, friends, and employees heard "mine". It's a good thing or I wouldn't have "mine". Everyone agrees; what a truly peaceful experience.
