Album Notes

THE FORGE MOUNTAIN DIGGERS'
DEBUT CD!

Originally formed as a contest band at the Mt. Airy Fiddlers' Convention in 2004, the Forge Mountain Diggers quickly realized that they were onto something good. They have won ribbons at Mt. Airy, the Appalachian Stringband Festival (Clifftop), and the Galax Old Fiddlers’ Convention. The Diggers released their first CD in June 2006, and have shared stages with the Grascals, Uncle Earl, Donna The Buffalo, Larry Keel, and many other giants of the new Americana scene.

Made up of former Freight Hoppers fiddler David Bass (fiddle), original Hogwaller Ramblers' guitar player Thomas Bailey (guitar and vocal) and the Milkcrate Rustlers' Allison Williams (banjo and vocal), the Diggers’ feral energy recalls the early years of country music, forging scorching rhythms in the classic tradition of the Skillet Lickers, Earl Johnson's Clodhoppers, and the Coon Creek Girls. With a background in the DIY punk scene, the Diggers put their personal firebrand on old-time music.

"The Forge Mountain Diggers play music like they mean it. Searing fiddling, great vocals, and powerhouse banjo playing. I want to be them when I grow up."
-Joe Newberry (Big Medicine)

Old-time Hain't No Crime!
author: The Fields Of Bluegrass Radio Hour
The Digger's approach to old-time music is irresistable, and they are currently building quite a following here in Central Indiana. This is ungarnished, bare knuckles, no-holds-barred-pickin' and singing, stripped down to the very essence of the song. An extremely refreshing approach against the backdrop of today's over produced, cookie cutter music world that tends to reduce most music to so much "product." This is the real deal and flat out fun besides, buddy!

awesome cd---one of my favorites

I purchase many old time cds, but this is one of the most exciting of many years. Similar to the not to be forgotten Freight Hoppers, this is a very hot and tight band. The players fit in to each other so smoothly, and Dave Bass, as always, is a delight.
