Fantastic big band funk - great movie scores!

This CD really is excellent - whether or not you have the original scores
themselves.
STRIDULUM doesn't sound quite as compelling without the heavy string backing
of the original (and the theme is one of my favourite Micalizzi
compositions). Brass takes a back seat in the original score of
Stridulum - although it's still there - and it's a bit strange to hear a
brass-led version on this CD. Think of it as an alternative arrangement and
it's still enjoyable, though I do prefer the original.
By contrast, "Delitto Sull'Autostrada" is - in my opinion - far better as
played by the Big Bubbling Band than in the original soundtrack, which is
rather thin and synthy. Orchestrated for a full big band, it sounds great
here.
There is a few clips on YouTube of Micalizzi conducting the Big Bubbling
Band - well worth seeking out.
Well done to CDBABY for stocking this CD - it really deserves a wider audience, whether you're a movie score fan or just a general big band fan.
I hope Micalizzi and the Big Bubbling Band consider a follow-up volume!
Orchestral jazz-funk at it's best - a great album.
