Fools Errand is Dave Simpson (guitar, mandolin, vocals), Cyd Lantz (bass, bassoon, vocals), and Tom Janko (guitar, resonator, keyboard, vocals). The trio performs a wide range of styles: pop, folk, bluegrass, jazz, and rock.
Dave is a Colorado native who has spent the better part of his life playing and teaching guitar in the Denver area. Beginning with the folk and rock band 'Wildwood Flower' in the late sixties, he has played professionally all over the Rocky Mountain region. He enjoys all styles of music, but bluegrass and jazz are his favorites. Not only a fine player, he writes original music for the trio. Dave and Tom's compositions have won awards in area contests.
Cyd was raised in Ohio and came to Colorado in her early teens. From the start music was a big part of her life, beginning with organ at age 5. From there she progressed to clarinet ("To play in the marching band!") and bassoon ("Because I had big hands"). She has classical training in bassoon, and has played professionally and semi-professionally for many years as a principal and second in many orchestras, as well as a featured soloist. She currently plays with the Evergreen Chamber Orchestra. Electric bass is a bit of a departure from the classical music genre she is trained in, but is a welcome branching out of her talents, as is the application of bassoon on jazz literature.
Tom Janko has a Bachelor's degree in music, and has been playing guitar, piano, and singing for thirty-five years. His is capable of performing vaiours styles including rock, country, bluegrass, and jazz. Tom is also a songwriter, and along with Dave has composed music which earned finalist status in the Colorado Composer's Classic.
