“Songs for Another Place” is the first release of Awful_Bliss (‘A_B’ for friends!), a new born independent record label based in Italy. The first CD – the “red” one – contains 21 unreleased tracks of north american artists that made us dreaming a lot in the last years.
The record opens with ‘Move On’, the new ballad of Faris Nourallah who reminds us the melodies and pathos of the best John Lennon, and develops through the trascendence of Canadian Great Lake Swimmers, the acoustic ‘class’ of The Strugglers, the intimist and dusty groove of LUCA (ex Nick Luca Trio), the hypnotic progression of Lazarus, the umpteenth demostration of talent of Will Johnson (Centro-Matic / South San Gabriel), the warm and fascinating sound of Dolorean, the sick country-blues of legendary Jeffrey Luck Lucas, the root sound of Hirsches (ex Halifax Pier), the master pop touch of Tobin Sprout, the softness of Barzin, the guitar based rock of Swearing at Motorists, the stunning Pink Floyd cover committed by Phosphorescent, the depth of The Hotel Alexis, the splinter of Unbunny, the magical instrumental suite of Tracker supported by Adam Selzer of Norfolk&Western, the absolute genius of HolySons, the ghosts of Everything is Fine, the newness of The Cannery (ex Halifax Pier) and the closing end of the rowdy folky sound of Elephant Micah.
The second CD – the “black”one – is a cross-section of how Italy plays indie with 18 unreleased songs.
The foggy blues of Songs for Ulan opens the tracklist and then you’ll find the intimate rock of Prague, the intrumental paintings of Giardini di Mirò and Rosolina Mar, the acid country vibes of Midwest, the atypic folk of Satellite Inn and Franklin Delano, the driven guitars of Hogwash , Blessed Child Opera and Ultraviolet Makes Me Sick, the open wounds of Goodmorningboy and Cesare Basile, the rhythm of Gea and the slacker sound of Buzzino, the eccentricity of Edwood and Psycho Sun and the closing end with the fineness of The Softone.
