Album Notes

"Pete Forbes is a fresh voice in a stagnant music scene." - Scott Pazur CD Reviews.com.

"...there is little denying that The Gulf Between is a dark understaded gem. The melancholy pop-rock of Clock Tower Face and She Will strikes an appealing balance between Michael Penn and Crowded House, while songs like the slow, moody The Wheel underline Forbes' spiritual kinship with canadian songwriter Ron Sexsmith." - Gilbert Garcia, New Times Magazine

Take some intelligent pop flavor - mix it with some sweet melodies - stir in some darker colors and some mixed meters - combined that with words that spring from a deep well, and there you have it - A hearty stew!

Great work by this guy Pete Forbes! This is the best new CD I've heard in a long while. The production of this disc is ultra professional and clear big leagues!!! Been a while since I've heard new lyrics that are so right on and penetrate my soul! Great music and hey, he's cute! This guy is a winner!!!!

"...heavy on the production, not a glitch in sight, and technically complex, this album will be loved by Crowded House fans..." -Sampler Magazine

Review of list-member Peter Forbes - The Gulf Between. If Willie Porter's mom had an affair with Dave Matthew's dad, they might have a son like Peter Forbes. I'm sure they are up-standing moral citizens and would never mess around like this, but I wanted to a cheap way to draw this comparison. This is good stuff, easy on the ear, smooth, well produced and played. I have a well, and one time that well ran dry, so why couldn't I come up with a cool hook like this: "I'll love you till the well runs dry, till the well runs dry" Because I'm not as clever as Peter Forbes, that's why. I hate the endless comparisons (although some knucklehead compared my band to a cross between Head East and Jethro Tull, I liked that), but there is no way around it. Peter sings a bit like Edward Kowalczyk (Live) and songs like The Wheel, She Will, and I Am the Stranger have a strong Live vibe, not a bad thing in my book. I wouldn't say Peter is a operatic or athletic vocalist, but his voice is pleasant enough. The performances are tight and solid (no shredding) and the production is clean and professional. One nice thing about this disk: No clinkers, every song is good, this makes for a satisfying listen. The lyrics are quirky enough to make them worth reading, I'm amused by lines like: Till the Well Runs Dry: So where are my flowers? She Will: She will live a long time Dysfunctional: We're living a talk show rehearsal Yeah, and it's a problem Peter has a solid band, very good song-writing skills, and is not a one-note talent. I don't know if the band plays out, but after listening to this disk 6 or 7 times, I have a strong desire to see this stuff performed live. This disk won't melt your brain, but you'll find it a good listen and very worthwhile. It will linger on your CD player. I say: buy a copy or two.
