Album Notes

The Forget-Me-Nots bring new energy to the ageless tradition of Celtic music. The band originated in 2002 but its roots go back to 1999, when the girls began violin lessons at the tender ages of 2, 3 and 4 years old. The Forget-Me-Nots are Willa Finck, Maura Shawn Scanlin, and Ledah Finck on fiddles, with David Finck on backup guitar. "blooming" showcases the girls astounding talents as players and, just as impressively, their mature abilities as composers and arrangers. From soulful to joyful, with elegance and, at times, feverish intensity, The Forget-Me-Nots take you on a musical journey spanning a wide range of emotions and leave you wanting more.

Forget Them Not

To make a short story long:  I was staying at the Mast Farm Inn, a B&B in Banner Elk, North Carolina, and the proprietors (who know a good thing or two) had a CD playing in my room when I checked in.  It was the Forget-Me-Nots, a group consisting of the Finck sisters, Willa and Ledah, and their lifelong pal Maura Shawn Scanlin, playing fiddles, with dad David Finck adding tasteful accompaniment on guitar.  A card indicated that the CD was available for sale at the desk, and I made a mental note to do just that.  The next evening, at a champagne reception in the Inn's sitting room, who should be playing for our entertainment but those very Forget-Me-Nots (minus Maura). The intimate setting was a wonderful way to experience fireworks on the fiddle, and for anybody who likes Celtic-flavored ballads and reels, I can only say:  these girls deliver.  And while their first CD, "Fiddlers Three" shows their precocity with traditional tunes when the oldest of them was 12, the new, self-penned "Blooming" is the keeper for me, and this year's Christmas gift of choice. Give them a listen.
