Album Notes

forgotten toys is a modern/contemporary rock band from the Chicagoland area. The band began a few years ago, and like so many bands, has undergone a few lineup changes as it has matured. FT began, through their own independent record label new day productions, by quickly releasing a 3-song Christmas CD (for 'Toys for Tots'o, followed by this full 12-track CD entitled 'through the window' in 1999 - which brings them to their current work of selecting from dozens of fresh new tracks for their third CD. Two of the three members from the last CD (Dae & Donn have spent the early half of 2001 writing, recording, and testing brand new material in a live acoustic setting. Feeling ready and eager, the duo has now selected a new rhythm backbone for the band in order to take 'forgotten toys' to the next level. The band has already secured a handful of supporting live show dates, as the new team looks forward to its next full-length release.

The record is a driving rock album, creatively blending straightforward rock instrumentation, catchy hooks, melodies, harmony, and an edgy modern 'techno' sound. forgotten toys has enjoyed their share of airtime on many major Chicagoland and college radio stations.

Their recorded original music has received airplay, and they have also done interviews and live performances on-the-air. They have been the focus of articles and reviews in many newspapers and publications. Much attention has been given to the new CD, as well as recent shows @ the House of Blues, Double Door, and many other venues. Their live shows have resulted in a solid, loyal following, producing consistent turnouts at clubs and venues.

forgotten toys has worked hard at organizing and participating in several fund-raiser/benefit shows (Midwest flood relief, Toys for Tots, Animal Shelter Benefits, etc. that have received national attention for their success.

forgotten toys, with their new lineup, can be seen in & around the Chicagoland area (check www.newdayproductions.com/ft_shows.html for datese.

solid, straightforward rock-n-roll. could be the next big sound.

Got a different sound... not doing the 'bandwagon' thing, simply following the current trends. sounds like solid, straightforward rock-n-roll. could be the next big sound in chicago power-pop... even has a beautiful piano ballad, that you don't hear too often in today's rock.

Big, fun, cutting-edge, solid songwriting, passion, unmitigated conviction, with
author: Craig Schmidt
Initially, it’s rather hard to know what to make of "Through the Window." As a piece of music, it’s a lot of things modern records generally are not. For one thing, it’s big; if nothing else, the bigness of this music can not be disputed. Big as in the first days of arena rock. This is flagrant, fun and hi-fi. The choruses - anchored though they are by plangent basslines and supple guitars - soar in a way that suggests these songs are truly formidable in a live setting. Though clearly a product of cutting-edge digital production techniques, the uniformly solid songwriting hints at influences as retro and varied as Boston (the wide-eyed ballad "Snow White") and Nirvana (the snarly punk-esque "New Moon"). Another thing about this record is that it is extraordinarily economic. The production is so taut you could bounce a quarter off of it and the instrumentation, for all its virtuosity, is so scrupulous it might be accused of being antiseptic. But the overall passion evident on the record saves it from that charge. Bassist/vocalist Dae plays and sings with unmitigated conviction, qualities that fall into lock step when married to the big hooks embedded in winners like "Sometimes I" and "Miles From Nowhere." "Through the Window" seems an apt title for a work of this kind. It looks out upon – and borrows from - a number of contemporary trends, but for the most part does not come out to play. Instead, Forgotten Toys choose to stay inside and dabble with their substantial cadre of rock and roll toys. "Through the Window" is much the better for such wise decisions.

THROUGH THE WINDOW HAS A UNIQUE SOUND THAT IS CATCHY AND MAKES FOR A VERY GOOD LISTEN. THERE IS A WIDE RANGE OF MUSIC ON THIS ALBUM, A LITTLE SOMETHING FOR EVERYONE. IT IS ALSO MIXED VERY WELL AND EVERY INSTRUMENT IS HEARD LOUD AND CLEAR. MUSIC IS NOT GOING IN ANY REAL DIRCETION, IT HAS BECOME STAGNANT AND OVERPLAYED. FORGOTTEN TOYS HAS ADDED SOME MUCH NEEDED LIFE INTO THE MUSIC SCENE. THEY TRUELY HAVE A SOUND FOR THE FUTURE. THEIR ALBUM SOUNDS LIKE WHERE MUSIC IS HEADED. IT IS FRESH AND THERE ARE A VARIETY OF DIFFERENT SPICES IN THIS STEW. I KNOW OTHERS WILL ENJOY IT AS MUCH AS I DID.
