ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Metal To Infinity

I keep on repeating that Myspace.com is the ultimate website to discover unknown yet fantastic Metal bands. Next in row is Forgotten Legacy, a band that delivers some of the purest US Power Metal! These guys will release an EP, called “The Oracle”, in a few months (March / April) and I can’t wait to add this beauty to my collection. The band send me a CD-R and it didn’t leave my laptop ever since I received it. These guys from Pennsylvania still have no label and by writing this review I hope to change their destiny. Will it work out this way? I wouldn’t know but spreading the words about them won’t do any harm!

The reason there’s no front cover yet is because the band is still working hard on it. I can only hope for a ‘strange and beautiful’ cover that will attract every Metal fan, making them feel obliged to listen to this extraordinary band! Anyhow the music is the most important part to talk about in a review so allow me to start worshipping Forgotten Legacy!

If you’re into first class US style Power Metal I am sure Forgotten Legacy will take you immediately by the throat. This is the kind of stuff the chosen few, who consider themselves as US Metal fanatics, just adore! Varied hard hitting arrangements, sharp riffs, sophisticated drum parts and strong soaring vocals with high pitched screams…. Especially these kind of vocals make US Power Metal so irresistible. Yes, everything I need to get my kick can be found here and Forgotten Legacy makes me wild; I’m freaking out! Fans of bands like Iced Earth (the first three releases), Overlorde, Exiled, Attacker, Liege Lord, Sacred Oath, Amulance, Fatal Violence, Held Under, Jag Panzer,….will be crazy about this band. Pure eighties US Power Metal which means you will discover a mixture between Thrash Metal (think Forbidden, Agent Steel, Flotsam & Jetsam), traditional Heavy Metal in vein of Iron Maiden, Judas Priest, Raven, Satan… and some slight Progressive lines (Fates Warning, Lethal and old Queensryche)!

Especially the vocals are extraordinary and are without any doubts one of the highlights on this upcoming release. This is a singer to handle with care because of his outstanding vocal sound and his amazingly strong lungs! I think I have listened about a hundred times to this release, liking these vocals more spin after spin and those high screams really are mind-blowing! If you’re a fan of Harry Conklin (Jag Panzer, Titan Force,…), James Rivera (Helstar), Bobby Lucas (Overlorde, Morbid Sin, Seven Witches), King Diamond, Brian Ross (Satan, Blitzkrieg), Geoff Tate (in his old Queensryche days)… I’m sure you will listen with eyes and ears wide shut!

The only thing I pity is the fact that, in my opinion, the band misses a second guitar player. Especially at the points the solos are heading my way I miss the power of a second guitarist and some twisted tight riffs in the background! Don’t get me wrong; the production is good and clear and the band contains a technical and fast fingered guitarist! The bass guitar lines are unbelievable muscular and varied but they don’t hide the fact that, once again in my opinion, the songs are losing some of their strength at those specific parts because of a missing second guitar. The music should sound stronger by adding a more overwhelming distortion sound in the basic lines and that’s exactly my point.

This EP contains five fantastic tracks; “2012”, “Rage”, the mighty “Cimmerian”, “The Darkness” and the striking “Forgotten Legacy”. Forgotten Legacy contains superior songwriters who are able to assure the band’s future. The band sounds so professional that much more improvement isn’t quite possible at this point, except a search to make the band sounding darker and more mysterious. Impossible to say what the best song is on this release; I adore them all. If they would consider my idea using a second guitar player I think their future might be bright. I know this isn’t exactly the most popular form of Metal nowadays but die hard Metal fans are fond of it and the popularity of true Metal grows every day, consider those German festivals as the perfect examples!
