Album Notes

"Fox and Branch are the best kind of musicians - making everything they play their own, while acknowledging the tradition from which the music comes. A folk duo from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, they perform a light-hearted mix of early jazz, country blues, jug band and dance music usually targeted to adults. Here the focus is on folk-derived children's songs that have been extensively tested at shows in public libraries and day care centers all over Greater Milwaukee.

From sing-a-longs such as the timeless title tune and "Bingo" to riddlers ("Arkansas Traveler"), folk classics (Elizabeth Cotten's "Freight Train") and conversational cut-ups like "Comin' 'Round the Mountain," with its vegetarian pizza and licorice, and an expansive "Erie Canal," the dedicated duo offer a spirited blueprint on how to put together an effective kids-oriented album. Will Branch's lead vocals seem naturally expressive, while Dave Fox's fiddle skills gleam on songs like the accelerative "Crooked Stovepipe" and "Bill Grogan's Goat."
For children of all ages."

Wonderful CD for kids!

We got this CD as a gift from Milwaukee friends, and it quickly became my 3-year-old's favorite (supplanting the Wiggles, no less!). She claps and dances to almost every song, and the great music and lyrics makes it pain-free for adults too. I'm buying it as gifts for all her friends!

Great - kids loved it - used in a lesson plan with the book and Reading Rainbow

The CD is fun and upbeat - the students loved it. I used the Mama Don't Allow song as a lesson closer with movement. We had already read the book and watched the Reading Rainbow video of Mama Don't Allow.

Awesome CD for both kids adults!

The music and humor are both fantastic in this disc- I listened to it by myself several times - it made me laugh out loud and dance around in the kitchen. Highly recommended for any kid/family; a welcome change from the cheezy Barney-type kids' music that seems to permeate the current market. "Comin' Round the Mountain" and "Erie Canal" renditions are particularly hilarious.
