Warm, genuine, acoustic mastery... with drive!
author: Ken Fackler... also a cdbaby guitarist
Sunburst is a wonderful gift for the guitar minded music lover, particularly one drawn to jazz. I hear the influence of such greats as Barney Kessel, Joe Pass, and others on this CD, but it is Jim’s own impeccable mastery that has woven these together with unique warmth, style and fun-filled drive.
My wife loves Celine Dion, and Jim’s rendition of “All the Way” reminds me of Celine’s version that resurrected Frank Sinatra in duet. While I love ALL the tracks, a favorite gem is “The Man Who Was Magic” which departs from the steady, rhythmic drive and invites the listener to a meditative space. Jim says this piece was written for a movie that was never made... based on a book of the same name by Paul Gallico. (Having lived abroad myself for many years, I guess I identify with this story idea!) Thankfully, this piece has been recorded, and Jim’s composition skills illuminate Sunburst. Highly recommended!!

A "must" for fans of solo guitar!
author: Soybean
From the cover with it's beautiful archtop guitar, to the selection of some of the greatest tunes ever written, this CD upholds and extends the tradition of the art of solo guitar playing. The arrangements are varied and unusual. "Cry Me a River" is given new life with a cool samba rhythm. "Come Rain…" is a great example of relaxed swinging guitar, and the harmonization is just wonderful. Special mention must be made about the sound. It's one of the most natural, acoustic guitar recordings i've ever heard. You just feel like you're in the room. But then, what would you expect with veteran engineer Al Schmidt at the helm?
