REVIEWS

a worth while, consistent collection of well played funky songs
author: Jason B
The album opens with "Loves Party" a mid paced funk track. It features good vocals, guitar and some P-Funky keyboards from Amp Fiddler. Next up is "Laughin" a slow paced bluesy rock tune. Lots of good singing especially from Belita Woods. The third track "When Ends Meet" is one I can imagine on the Incorporated Thang Band album from 1988. The short, effective & frantic "Reputation" features the Red Hot Chili Peppers. "Love Deeper" is one of my favorites. This would have worked well on one of George Clinton’s solo albums on Capital. The chorus is hypnotic with Clinton in a prominent role. "Black Beach" is a guitar based ballad with a laid back feel. It includes some nice harmonies on the chorus. The funky "In My Mind" has nods lyrically to both Sly Stone & Clinton. Tight driving percussive instrumentation fit well under the vocals. "Puppy Love" features some heart felt vocals on another tune that would have worked on the Incorporated Thang Band album. "Open House" is fast paced with a catchy chorus leading directly into the effective "Mature Freak". The album ends strongly with "Squirrel Looking For A Nut" which has prominent keys, bass & drums support some P-Funk chants including "All I want is a nut" Overall a worth while, consistent collection of well played songs that should appeal to any fan of P-Funk’s often under appreciated 80s releases Lots of the P-Funk mob appear through out the album. Several tracks originally appeared on the very rare “I'm Funk And I'm Proud” album.
