A vocally driven duo who have written nine lyrically and musically honest songs. Strong vocals over intimate instrumentation that bring the focus back to songwriting. Think Cowboy Junkies having coffee with Paul Westerberg.

Album Notes

Friends of Your Mother is an eclectic, vocally driven duo who have found success in the field of songwriting and performing on their own terms.

FOYM consists firstly of Shawn O'Neil and Gillian O'Neil.

An American and an Australian who met in Western Australia, clicked intimately and musically and married 6 weeks later.

They have been together and performing for 8 years.

They have made Basalt, Colorado their home for the past 7 years and have been joined by a number of musicians in the West throughout their musical career.

At this time, Patrick Winger accompanies Shawn and Gillian on electric base.

Patrick has not only enhanced FOYM instrumentally but with his added vocal harmonies has given the foundations of FOYM another dimension.

The strong ties between Shawn, Gillian and Patrick makes the groups distinctive vocal sound and melody driven arrangements.

Their original material and band name is a reaction to the state of the environment ( Mother refers to Mother Earth ).

FOYM has always strived to keep songwriting and raw instrumentation the focus of their music.

Artists such as Paul Westerberg, Lucinda Williams, The Cowboy Junkies and early R.E.M. were strong influences on FOYM's style and sound.

FOYM has taken a grass roots approach to their careers by building their reputation one show at a time, resulting in a strong fan base in Colorado.
