Friendly Psychics Music’s second best-of compilation shows the label’s progression from a loose, mid-fi band of friends and musicians to tightly-honed and focused, yet still impressively diverse, group of recordings. Label co-founders Dan Miller and Chris Jones step out on their own with solo projects (Derecho and A Surplus of 1, respectively), while Dishwater Psychics presents its most compelling work to date. Electronics and synthesizers also take a big step forward with Brainswarm and Unified Alarm System, and the ‘90s indie-folk troubadours The Circuit Riders reunite for a few tracks.
