Meet Fraid Knot - western Canada's hardest working ambassadors of contemporary Celtic music. Influenced by the sounds of the musical pioneers who've journeyed down this path before, the band's distinctive east coast flavored sound is largely defined by lead singer/front man Newfoundland born, Byron Eddy (formerly of Muldow). Calmer than the Drop Kick Murphy's, edgier than Great Big Sea, happier than the Pogues and still traditional enough to please the ear of many a purist, Fraid Knot bridges the gap between Celtic and Rock!
The band is a technical, high energy group of musicians who embrace elements from the Canadian east coast as well as Irish, Scottish, and North American traditional celtic rock in their cover songs and original music. The debut album "Hoist the Sails" has been receiving strong radio play across Canada, the United States as well as the United Kingdom, Ireland and Australia. Unique interpretations of traditional numbers that been "Fraid Knotified" but still treated with the respect that these timeless classics deserve, compliment ear-catching, driving original music. From the haunting opening lines of "Island Lament" to the anthem-like title track "Hoist the Sails", to the soaring modulation in "Seagull's Cry", the recording successfully captures the massive energy this ensemble exudes during their live performances.
Produced by Glenn Webster and Todd J. Al, this album was mastered by the legendary Terry Manning of Compass Point Studios (Nassau Bahamas).

I've followed this band for years and can tell you they were always one of my favorite live groups. When they finally released Hoist the Sails I was blown away by the CD. The original material was amazing, and a couple of tracks have turned into my favorites of any group going. Hoist the Sails (the song) has amazing energy and has been labled by some maritime friends of mine as their favorite east coast anthem. The guitar solo in Seagull's Cry is incredible & gives me goose bumps everytime I hear it. There really isn't a weak track on this album and it hardly ever leaves my CD player. I can recommend this to anyone. Great job guys!
