Francesco Rampichini was born in Milan in 1960. Guitarist and composer, he obtained his Degree from the “L. Marenzio” Conservatory of Brescia, taught by Claudio R. Conti. He attended composition masterclasses held by F. Donatoni, A. Clementi, L. De Pablo, J.C. Risset and H. Dufourt.
Since early in the 80s he has been devoting himself to electronic and informatic music; in 1988 he founded with G.B. Zotti the independent label musikAtelier, receiving a precious critical contribution from Marcello Abbado to their musical productions.
Inventor of acousmetry, that he defines as ”a code of the geometric proportions perceived through the acoustic depiction of a space perspective”, in 2004 he published the book Acusmetria. Il suono visibile (Franco Angeli), decribing the basic principles and the typical processes of this new language.
He composed various musics for art exhibitions, video, theatre and multimedia arts, conceiving a wide range of interconnections between sounds and images, where the outcomes of his research on the isomorphisms between the two fields find their ideal application.
As a professor at the Polytechnic of Milan (1999-2005), he contributed to introduce sound as a project subject in the Design Degree Course.
He published several CDs (with Rdc, Emi, mkA, Cadalo) and the collections Otto studi per chitarra (Bèrben, 1996) as well as Youth Box (GI-MA, 2006); he is coauthor of the volumes Museo Sensibile (Franco Angeli, 2002) and Archestesie (Spirali, 2004).
Besides his activity as a concert performer, started in 1975, since 1987 he has been working as a journalist and critic in the music editorial area, for magazines as “Chitarre” (as editor in chief at the editorial office in Milano during a decade), “Seicorde”, “Suonare News”, “Internet & Musica”, “Il mordente”, “Midi Songs”, “Tribuna Stampa” and others.
He has been a guitar, informatic music and harmony teacher at the Civiche Scuole di Musica of Milan and Opera, at the “Ateneo della Chitarra” and at the “Istituto Musicale Europeo” of Milan. Currently he teach at the CPSM in the “G. Verdi” Conservatory in Milan and at the “Laboratorio Musicale” in Locate Triulzi.
He was President of the Italian Jury for the “Django D’or” International Award, sponsored by the French Embassy in Rome (1999), of the “Principessa Cristina Trivulzio di Belgioioso” opera competition as well as of the Ar.Me.S. cultural association (Art Media Science) and he is President of the jury of the International guitar contest “Rocco Peruggini”.
He has composed the musics for the multimedia installations of the Roman Theatre at the Chamber of Commerce of Milan (2007), for the dramas by V. Patera, Me, Charles Darwin (Philosophy Festival, Auditorium Parco della Musica, Rome, 2007) and Max Perutz, a Nobel narrates itself (Bergamo Scienza 2006, Auditorium, Piazza della Libertà) and he exhibits his work at the multimedia exposition “Téchne 05” (Spazio Oberdan, Milan) Capriccio Spaziale, acousmetric room, staged with media_formasuono.
At present he is preparing Sentire le Stelle (Hearing the stars), an acousmetric interactive astrocartography project in cooperation with the “U. Hoepli” Planetarium of Milan. The cooperation with the architect and informatic painter Giorgio Riva has given rise to the work “a quattro mani”, completely composed through a new multimedia language syntax.

Chitarrista e compositore. Diplomato in chitarra al Conservatorio “L. Marenzio” di Brescia sotto la guida di Claudio R. Conti, ha seguito master class di O. Ghiglia, J. Bream, E. Fisk, seminari di composizione di F. Donatoni, A. Clementi, L. De Pablo, J.C. Risset, H. Dufourt (Civica Scuola di Musica Contemporanea di Milano, 1988-‘99) e corsi di composizione elettronica di G.B. Zotti (1984-‘90). Per un triennio ha studiato tromba e flicorno. Nel 1988 fonda con G.B. Zotti l’etichetta indipendente musikAtelier, alcune delle cui produzioni discografiche si avvalgono delle note di copertina del m° Marcello Abbado.
Ideatore dell'acusmetria, codice delle proporzioni geometriche percepite uditivamente nella rappresentazione acustica della prospettiva spaziale, ha composto musiche per esposizioni, video, teatro e arte multimediale, creando forme di sintassi per composizioni interconnesse musica-pittura.
Suoi brani sono presenti in varie antologie e sono stati trasmessi dai canali Tv INTER-TV, RAI 3, CANALE 5, Rete A, Odeon TV, Sky TV.
Svolge attività concertistica solo e in formazioni varie, in orchestra e gruppi da camera e ha partecipato a numerose rassegne di musica elettronica.
Professore incaricato (forma/suono) alla Facoltà del Design del Politecnico di Milano per un quinquennio (1999-2005) ha contribuito a introdurre il suono come materia di progetto nel corso di laurea in Design.
Dal 1987 svolge intensa attività giornalistica nel settore musicale, pubblicando sulle riviste CHITARRE (di cui dirige la redazione milanese per un decennio), SEICORDE, SUONARE News, IL MORDENTE, MIDI SONGS ed altre centinaia di interviste a chitarristi e musicisti di ogni settore, trascrizioni musicali, saggi, articoli di critica e di tecnica strumentale, corrispondenze dall’estero.
Tra il 1985 e l’89 collabora alla realizzazione di film dei registi A. Bevilacqua, F. Brusati, P. Sandor, C. Vanzina, A. Celentano, E. Oldoini, A. Sironi, L. Gasperini.
È stato docente, assegnatario in pubblici concorsi a cattedra, presso le Civiche Scuole di Musica di Milano (chitarra e informatica musicale), alla Civica Scuola di Musica di Opera e presso l’“Ateneo della Chitarra” e l’“Istituto Musicale Europeo” di Milano. Attualmente insegna ai CPSM presso il Conservatorio “G. Verdi” di Milano e alla Civica Scuola di Musica di Locate Triulzi.
È stato presidente della giuria italiana del Premio Internazionale “Django D'Or” sotto l’Alto patronato dell’Ambasciata di Francia a Roma (Roma, 1999), presidente della giuria del I Concorso di Canto Lirico “Principessa Cristina Trivulzio di Belgioioso” e coordinatore artistico di tutte le successive edizioni, membro di giuria del “3° Yamaha Music Quest” (Milano, 1988), socio fondatore e presidente dell'associazione culturale Ar.Me.S. (Arte Media Scienza).
È iscritto alla SIAE e all’Ordine dei Giornalisti della Lombardia.
