Adventurous modern take on underground 80s pop
author: Jeff
Besides being packed with 16 catchy tunes, Hideous Creatures happens to feature a couple of my now all-time favorite Frankenpony tunes: one called Come Down and another called Immersing. Other standout tracks for me include Rotting, Hood, Looking, and Trash. With reference points from 80s era XTC to The Tubes to Joe Jackson to The Producers, it's definitely reminiscent of the best underground 80s pop, but heavier and quirkier.

No way this is just three guys. Talk about a power pop trio...

I can not believe the talent I hear in this CD. Killer guitar licks and grooves, tightly woven drums, ever-present tasteful bass lines, and top-notch vocals including unusual melody lines and harmonies. The singer has excellent vocal range, control, and dynamics. The songs are quirky but very well written. Interesting packaging as well, with the Hideous Creature and Three movements theme. My favorite tracks are "Obsessing," "Medicating," and "Come Down" ("I've been there like you - way out on the edge - that's metaphoridally speaking I've never literally been out on a ledge") It's odd, but it works. Really well. Can't wait to listen to it again on the way to work tomorrow.
