CD Review - The Groove (June 2008)
Man, what a relief it was to hear this jam. The review could be a simple one-liner like, "If you dig rock n' roll, girls and parties, you'll dig Fredi Handshoe". From the beginning feedback of Marshall stacks in the opening track, "The Story of Jack", to the incredibly corny, yet somehow relevant chorus,"I wanna know, do you believe in rock n' roll", of the closer "Supersonic Bikini Machines", Fredi Handshoe's "Bikini Machines From Beyond the Stars" is a welcome breath of fresh air in a musical genre that's long been stagnant with pain, self-pity and of course, Nickelback. I loved the Hanoi Rocks influence in "Goodbye Miss America" and the Space Ace Frehley licks in "Gravity Girl". The album has its heavier songs as well including "Wait Your Turn" which sounds like KISS' "Parasite" being sang by Gene Simmons in a Rob Zombie vocal groove. I was glad to find somebody from Richmond with the ability to write great 3 to 4 minute rock songs that rock and make you feel like partying. This album proves that if you look around, you can find local musicians to satisfy your musical needs. I also thank you Fredi Handshoe for reminding me how much I dig the spaceman himself, Ace Frehley. So, if you're looking for music you can put in at a party that's not a buzz-kill, check out Fredi Handshoe at: www.fredihandshoe.com and myspace.com/fredihandshoe
