Album Notes

Fred Taylor and Inquest is a jazz/fusion group dedicated to 'investigating' the music. Exquisite arrangements, combined with exciting improvisation, highlight both the ensemble and individual talents of the performers.
Inquest features Gary Rollins on guitar, James Clark on bass, Craig Lawrence on reeds, and Fred Taylor on drums.

Originally a trio formed in 1976 by Fred and Gary, Inquest was re-born in 2000 as a quartet. All four players have extensive experience in the music business, having been fixtures on the Seattle-area music scene for many years, playing with both local and national acts live and in the studio. All four players are also private instructors.

Fred has 40+ years experience in Country, Rock, Funk, R&B, Jazz, Fusion, Pop, Big Band, Afro-Cuban, Brazilian, Musicals.

Fred also plays: congas, bongos, timbales, djembe, tabla, Afro-Cuban and Brazilian hand percussion, timpani, orchestral mallets, keyboards and bass guitar.

He has worked extensively nationwide as a leader, sideman, arranger, and producer in studios since 1970, working on singles, albums, and jingles, in nightclubs and in concert, in theater, and on radio. He's worked live TV in Seattle, Tacoma, Vancouver, B.C., and Minneapolis, and has appeared on film in travelogues and on film soundtracks. He spent several years traveling with various bands throughout the western and central U.S. and Canada from the early '70s to about 1980.

In 1982, his album "Court of Circe" (available on CDBaby) attracted international attention on the air and in magazines such as Down Beat and Cadence. He also has two CDs with his New York-based trio: Circling (2008) and Live at Cecil's Volume 1 (2009). Both are available on CDBaby.

Most recently, he has been playing in the New York/New Jersey area with Bob Ackerman and Pam Purvis, and his own
trio featuring Bob on woodwinds and Rick Crane on bass.
