The Fred Taylor Trio features veteran Seattle drummer/composer Fred Taylor, woodwind great Bob Ackerman, and premier bassist Rick Crane.
'Live at Cecil's - Volume 1' was recorded on January 23, 2009 at Cecil's Jazz Club and Restaurant in West Orange, New Jersey. The package consists of an audio CD and a bonus DVD of footage of each tune from the concert.
'Live at Cecil's - Volume 1' follows the very successful CD 'Circling' recorded by this group and released in September 2008. Volume 2, recorded January 30, 2010 and featuring electric bassist Francesco Beccaro, will be released later in 2010.
Fred Taylor is a drummer, percussionist, composer, and arranger. He has been freelancing with various acts including the jazz singers Laura Hull, Gil \'Bebop\' Benson and Eugene \'Goldie\' Goldston. He is also a regular member of the Pam Purvis-Bob Ackerman group the \'Blue Skies Band\'.
In addition to drum set, Fred plays congas, bongos, timbales, mallets, and tympani. Fred also plays keyboards, bass guitar, and double bass.
Fred was born in Spokane, Washington in 1954 and has lived in the Seattle area since 1970. He worked extensively nationwide as a leader, sideman, arranger, and producer.
In 1982, his album \"Court of Circe\" attracted international attention on the air and in magazines such as Down Beat and Cadence.
In 2000, Fred and guitarist Gary Rollins re-created their 1970s-era jazz/fusion group \'Inquest\'. Their first album, \"Processional\", was released in December 2006 and is attracting much favorable attention on the Web and in the jazz press.
Since May 2007, he has been playing in the New York/New Jersey area with Pam Purvis and the Blue Skies Band. He has also performed with jazz/r&b group Dreams On Tour, country/rock pianist, singer and writer Hannah Reimann, and Latin/jazz/fusion group Not-Yet.
