Album Notes

Risen from the ashes of thrash metal act Denata, Tomas Andersson and Roger Blomberg teams up with Mique Flesh (ex. Witchery/Seance) and invokes new musical spirits summoned in hell’s fire. The idea and hunger for a new project soon formed into what now has been unleashed as Freevil. The idea was to create something diverging from their natural influences and create something new and unexpected. Just going with riffs that felt good – not caring to much where on the metal brutality Richter scale they fitted – as long as they ROCKED in the widest but still deepest sense of the word.

After some intense rehearsal sessions of blood, sweat and fears – ten songs were formed and recorded in the cultural asylum known as Studio HellSmell, where Mique entered the throne as studio engineer.
With a hellish troika of Tomas (guitar/addition vocals), Mique (drums and vocals) and Roger (bass armageddon) their first opus was eternalized/infernalized in 2006/2007. And a fourth character was also brought in to do some additional synths and FX; the spirit of composer Phanatos was also added to heat things up even more - in this tasteful witches brew of raw yet sophisticated timeless metal bearing the sign of Freevil.

After completion of the recording sessions, and detailed mixing early 2007, the material was mastered by Peter In de Betou (Dimmu Borgir, Marduk, Dark Funeral etc) and the material was brought up the last notch of hell’s circles, to be unleashed in this demented world known as Earth.

So prepare yourself for some straightjacket fun, some mindblowing sophisticated yet raw – raw yet sophisticated in your face metal that will charm or haunt you…or maybe both!

Now Freevil have unleash these eternal infernal flames entitled Freevil Burning!! Enjoy!

"A mightily entertaining offering of gothic death n roll from members of Denata, Witchery and Séance. Imagine a burlesque rollercoaster ride through the cardboard cut out scenery of Purgatory, a sped up toxic avenger mutation of painkiller fortified with vaudeville/hammer horror keyboards and relebtless hook laden riffs riffage offering non stop head banging action. Okay it isntthe best album ever made, as freevil are intriguingly syuspended in limbo between ludicrous, absurd and the damn classic. Shamwlessy, outrageously fun nevertheless." 7.5 / 10

Shortly after the thrash/heavy metal act Denata were put to rest another band rose from its ashes. The new creation is called Freevil and it includes the former Denata members Andersson and Blomberg along with the ex-Seance/Witchery drummer Mique Flesh. They have also taken in Phanatos on synths and FX. Flesh doesn’t only do drums; he’s also in charge of the vocals with some help from Andersson. I thought it was pretty sad when the Denata were put to rest and you can believe I was glad when I read about Freevil. I have been impatiently waiting for this album and I’m happy to be able to present the Freevil debut. If you think that Freevil is gonna sound anything like Denata, you’re wrong. Freevil is more of an extreme metal band; they sound like thrash/heavy metal blended with some death metal. It sounds incredibly mean and Flesh hisses his vocals and sounds a little like the old Witchery singer Toxine at times. He’s gotten help from Andersson, who comes in and contributes some pure death metal vocals and when alongside Phanatos’ crazy keyboard parts it feels like an old Nosferatu/horror movie. They have skipped guitar solos and instead focus on delivering overall heavy-blasting rhythm guitar parts which feels absolutely right in this context. It has taken the band a lot of blood, sweat and tears to get the ten tracks in order and there isn’t a single bad track. The material is extremely well-written and even though some songs are slower they haven’t compromised the heaviness at all. They’ve managed to find just the right dose of meanness and brutality this album needs. Even though I do like the parts Phanatos contributes, I wish they’d narrowed down his piano/keyboard and FX parts a little. Otherwise, this is a brilliant debut, but what else would you expect from these hard-hitting guys? It’s not an easy album that you can listen to once and then get; it takes a few times before you can fully enjoy it, but when you do you won’t be able to put FREEVIL BURNING aside. I strongly recommend this debut to any fan of extreme metal and FREEVIL BURNING is one of the albums you ought to purchase during 2007. Rating 4/5

Freevil and their music can be described as sheer and explosive power! I keep listening to this CD again and again and I'm lost for words, cause I feel what I'm about to say is going to be inadequate of this band's might and potential and of the impact these songs are going to have upon you! Freevil is a dynamite that has risen from the ashes of DENATA, another great thrash metal band, but to be honest with you I think "Freevil Burning" is these guys' best release to date, showcasing a tight band with endless sources of brutality and inspiration. Their music can't be clearly and absolutely defined or labeled, but we could positively say that they dwell somewhere between death and thrash metal. But that's not the end of the story, since upon this foundation, the powerful combo has also added lots of classic heavy metal riffage, beautiful eerie keyboards and effects that render to this release a modern/industrial scent. The production is very good and extremely voluminous, something they surely did on purpose to infuse their compositions with further noise and agrressiveness. The riffs are stunning, creating violent themes that stick to your mind and they are combined with a thick and concrete wall of rhythm section and thrashy, but quite high pitched vocals that have a twisted hue in them. In fact there isn't anything negative or any flaws I can find in this release. The fans of the modern death/thrash sound and those who adore the amazing and divine 3 INCHES OF BLOOD will find a killer release here! Rating 8.5/10
