The basic facts:
We're from Knoxville TN, which has a surprisingly fertile and diverse music scene. We've been playing together for about 4 years. The band is John T. Baker (guitar, vox) Jim Rivers (guitar, vox) Brian Williams (bass) and Chris Hurt (drumbo, vox). Members of the French Broads have played in bands such as the Martini Age, Love Glue, the Fedz and Ground Zero. For more info you can go to www.disgraceland.com. John has several solo albums out- www.homemademusic.com.
We're not so comfortable doing the promo bit. So we'll let our reviews speak for us.
Babysue.com says:
"Smart melodic pop with a sense of humor. Knoxville's The French Broads are an upbeat pop band with exceptional tunes and clever lyrics...This band possesses all the qualities of a cool little band that has just found their image and sound. These compositions sound fresh and energized."
Splendid says:
"The French Broads take the same sunny, jangly approach to music that has been perfected, at various times, by the Dbs, the Posies, Velvet Crush and Teenage Fanclub...The French Broads are at their best when they're delivering soaring chords and hooky melodies on tracks like "Epic" and "Big Orange Paint"."
Indieville.com says:
"If you're looking for some fun, straightforward rockin' and rollin' power pop, then chances are you'll dig the French Broads. These guys know how to use a pop hook, and the melodies on Tubes, Wood & Metal are perfect evidence. The songs on this album are all really well-done. The vocals are delightfully pleasant, blending very well with the music. The songs have a nice, loose sound with a carefree element that makes them perfect for cartrips and just being with friends."
EarCandy mag says:
"Best I can tell they are neither french nor broads. They are however, one very tight pop band. Ten well written and performed songs that fall somewhere between Wings and Golden Smog. The combination of quirky songs and a polished sound is a perfect pairing for college radio, which I'm sure these guys are well aware of. So, all you college stations out there, take my advice and just play the damn cd!"
