notes

Fresh Cut Salads is a 5-piece "pop-secret" band centered in Northeast Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The Salads' music is instantly affable, and once you hear it...well you may or may not want to hear it again. Or maybe you just wont care; however, this is unlikely.

We pride ourselves in being either instantly cherished, or shunned permanently, as we tend to base our "creative" philosophy around the concept of never backing down from a bad idea. Thus, we have found ourselves affixed to many grueling band traditions (such as playing a completely different version of the same song, "Intro," at the beginning of every single show). Fresh Cut Salads is a glittering concoction of abusive self-deprecation and near-crippling egotism.

Vitamin Sea will indulge the listener's hunger with 14 beautifully produced masterpieces.

Reade handed me a copy of V.S. (the cool way of writing it) and I was like "What the hell is this?" I've known R. for about a year and a half and had no idea he was into music, let alone a band for Christ's sake! With wild-eyed anticipation I put it in my car cd player and within the first cycle of play... I was an instant fan. And this isn't the usual "love a band because you know someone in it" BS. Four out of five of you have great talent. (Joking about the four out of five thing, just wanted to cause tension and chaos amongst the members as they decide who to cut loose...) But seriously, since Thursday, I have listened to your album 10 times. The three vocal sounds are excellent, when combined or alone. I can tell you all put your blood, sweat, and tears into this album. I am looking forward to anything new you release. ::bowing:: -Russ Oh, and my favourite moment on the album: 0:38 seconds into Bunch of Eyes... the keyboard... brilliant...

Well, the very first song I heart was Important Sandwich, and I thought to myself, wow, these guys have humor AND creativity. Hey look, I wrote "heart" instead of "heard," and I'm gonna keep it that way. My subconscious knew exactly what I meant. Anyway, I just had to watch the I.S. video and watch another one. And then I just had to buy the CD. Next time I'm in Bryn Athyn, I will do my damndest to get to a live concert.

  • Um, outstanding! What's not to love?

Ok, first ... just click on the samples. They tell the best story of all. Great harmony, delicious quirkiness / genius, perfectly pulled off. Just lots and lots of fun and talent with a new surprise on every track.

  • The best album I'll ever hear.

Vitamin Sea is the kind of album you won't need to listen to more than once to appreciate it's genius, but you will because you want to. The tracks string together what makes for an inventive and original listening experience, while also being accessible and easy listening as individual songs.

  • This album is Genius- goes down well with a glass of Guiness.

Fresh Cut Salads ___________ "Vitamin Sea" (2006) ___________ This album is Genius- goes down well with a glass of Guiness. Intro- a delightful trip up and down the linings of your inner esophagus, with a little bit of suspense Importance of Gradients- what are those sounds? tiny keyboard, surprise me with your sounds from outer space, and hold me closer. the powerful vocal section crescendoes into a mighty woh that makes you feel like you can really do anything, except for making music that would sound like the fresh cut salads I Can't Stop This Feeling- i love the way the vibraphone pulsates happiness into my surroundings and in a way, this song reminds me of the Beach Boys, only more modern and reaches out to the youth to stroke their hair more softly, even the mohawks and mullets. Self Deprecationists- a cheery, sing-along type ditty about my life and many of the lives of people close to me. i just never knew how to put it in such a way that everyone would want to whistle and cheer with it too. i also noticed that they're the type of people who have to get that last word in in an argument. If You Don't- i would never say a song on this album was my favorite (because they're all perfect in their own lil way) but this one is delectably fit. with an almost eery beginning and a starkly contrasted bang of bop to top, the cowbell and swanky bass take me sailing swiftly through this tasty adventure of a tale of curtains, being naked, and rage. silky. W.A.I.T.O.P.W.G.C.S.M.T.I.W.T.C.U.A.D.- powerful, full of force, almighty, persuasive, enlivening, enlightening, strengthy, endowed, likable, savvy, hearty, poignant, colossal, highly relatable- who doesn't feel this way?!!?!!? and damned if that title isn't clever! this one really weaves a nesty (comforting) web in my heart strings. A Bunch of Eyes- did i say the other one was my favorite? you can't even give this song any genre classification it's so incomparably unique. i want to know what this man is talking about and at the same time i don't even care. the magical mystery tour bus has nothing on this trip through the intergalactic milky spacial way!!! Barracuda!- as an avid linguist, i can genuinely appreciate their lack of any correlation between the lyrics to this song and the spanish language. but it reminds me of going to spain or mexico, allows me to fantasize about visiting a place like acapulco or costa rica, and generally just makes me laugh. especially because it would really hurt to use a barracuda as a means of transportation. Dysgitimate Child- oh my goodness! who is this fine lady singing with such a sultry voice! this song goes from soothing to smoldering in no time. and it does NOT stop there! Propped Up- remember when you learned the 5 W's in school? Well- who, what, where, why, when, and w(h)ow! this song could literally knock a person out. we may never know how they did it. probably not. Important Sandwich- another greaty but oldy, somewhat Beatle-esque, this one can really get to you. reminds you of the good times, the old times, the new times, the new york times on a saturday morning with some coffee and promises of snuggles. a tear in your eye? Up the Trunk of a Wisdom Tree- short and tall this one is, climactic, exalting, over so soon, but so fulfilling along the way. Man- boo! this song'll just smack you right upside the head with no bars held up. a true gem on the album- punk rock and heavy metal like- affable and laughable! i mean, cranberry man, trodden feet?!??!?! Dream Song- hearty, wholesome, a sexy little love song that makes you pee your pants a little. from all the excitement that is. vibrant. makes you hold your breath. you don't know what's going to happen, but you're falling in love all the way, chuckle, chuckle! _______________________ seriously though. this album is decadent. it's superb. exquisite! i could rant and rave about it all day long and longer. 7 cheers for the sea! you'll get all your vitamins and more from listening to a tidbit of this album

Yea, I got a taste of some Fresh Cut Salad. I'm talkin' CRISP. Salad is usually the first part of a three-course meal, but whatever secrets you hold compel me to partake in Salad followed by Salad followed by Salad. -Manhandle
