Album Notes

Every once in a while someone produces a record that for whatever reason, you can't get out of your CD player. Often times it's just that it's stuck, but in the case of The Sons of Fruity Metcalf's "Honky," I have listened to nothing else since it made it's way across my desk some six weeks ago.

I'm not gonna lie to you. This music isn't for everybody. But if you like thick rock and roll grooves mixed with country mountain breakdowns and a song or two about "poo," then this is the album for you. The kind of music that's refreshing for it's lack of pretentiousness, and it's ability to wear it's sense of humor on it's sleeve while still being incredibly vulnerable and honest at the same time. You might have heard their mariachi track "Murdock Blues" on MTV's "Jackass," but that's just the tip of the iceberg with these folks.

Freudian epics like "When you Poopie" and "Mom is Pretty" meld old time music with post modern musings, while the Stones influenced "Who's that Man" remind you once and for all to "loosen up" and shake your booty for a change. Make no mistake, "The Sons" are an extremely funny band, but you'd be missing the point if that's all you thought of them as. For despite the fact that this is their debut effort, this record is the fruit of a long haul and is one of those rare finds that'll make you laugh in the face of everything that was previously holding you down. In other words, this is the light at the end of tunnel that you've been waiting for. So buy the damn thing will ya? I'm tired of these boys calling me!
