FUNKIPHINO

"Sexy soul voice and good music - These people know what they are doing. My only comment is go and buy it," a reviewer recently wrote about Funkiphino's debut CD, Lovin' Life.

With the constant torrent of look-a-like artists, it's is a welcome surprise to hear the soul infused sounds of this funky horn-blessed band. The 10 members of the Denver/Boulder based funk band Funkiphino have found the nexus between music and magic. Funkiphino follows in the footsteps of their favorite influences; Tower of Power, Earth Wind & Fire, Donna Summer, Aretha Franklin and Stevie Wonder - combining the sweet sounds of the seventies with new school writing and production. Explosive horn lines, old-school Hammond organ sounds, and pumpin' bass add to their intoxicating vocals and slammin' harmonies.

Choice musicianship as well as artful songwriting has destined Funkiphino to an infinite state of growth. The all-star members of Funkiphino are spit-fire musicians who have created an intelligent, funk injected musical niche. Their personalities come through on their new debut CD, Lovin' Life, produced by Funkiphino & club music veteran Richard Dekkard (Paula Cole, Dido, Warner Brothers), and explode onstage as a must-see power band. Funkiphino demonstrates that talent, intellect, and creativity make for a powerhouse worthy of acclaim.

Be sure to pick up a copy of Funkiphino's debut CD of all original music, Lovin' Life. You can also catch them all over the Front Range ripping up dance floors and festivals in equal measure.

This is unlike any CD I've heard in a while. I must say the singer is cream of the crop! Her voice is chillingly beautiful. I will be looking for more from this group.

I like this album because of the excellant musicianship and the beautiful lead vocalist with the beautiful voice. The album opens up with the very sexy Slide. I like the haunting melodies of tunes like Bittersweet and Leap Of Faith. I'm looking forward to more music by this band.

Retro soul/funk with real musicians
author: Phil Green
It is a rare treat these days to find a soul/funk album by a self contained band who write their own music and play their own instruments. This album takes me back to the golden age when bands like Slave made great music despite being largely ignored by the media. It has elements of soul, funk & rock and will not appeal to everyone because it is too good, it's real music and does not pamper to trends. However, if anyone out there thinks that rap, hip hop and R & B is where it's at then give this a listen because it might teach you something. There is not a duff track and it is vying with Gary Des Etages (also available on CD Baby) as soul/funk album of the year.
