We’ve combined the dynamic core of Steve Kuykendall, Russ Allen, and Kevin Anderson to cut a Blues Rock groove big enough you could fall into. We are the Central Valley’s ultimate Blues Rockers.
Furious Slugs are oxymoron. Not to be confused with complete moron, or booger eatin’ moron, but rather having to do with the art of having fun and merrymaking, often by using puns and other ambiguities that require an entry level of intelligence to comprehend.
Steve Kuykendall’s guitar playing and singing is widely acclaimed throughout the San Joaquin Valley. In years past he was the winner of the Charlie Daniels’ Guitar Wars (twice), and also Guitar Center’s Guitarmagedon. He currently owns and operates Kuykendall Music Center at Clovis and 3rd in Clovis, where he gets lots of practice.
Two years ago he agreed to be, “the new Sluggie.” when Tom St Louis, the original guitar man from the first two albums, became afflicted with issues that kept him from continuing on at that time. In those two years FS shared the stage with Tommy Castro, Coco Montoya, Johnny A. and our local favorites the Mofo Party Band. FS also wrote and recorded their new album, “Hold the Salt” at Wolfsound Audio Engineering in Fresno, California.
“Hold the Salt” is an incredible episode in the songwriting of Allen and Kuykendall. It contains eleven originals and one cover, Red House. We each sing our own originals and we both write from the heart. Many of our raw ideas manifested into songs that practically wrote themselves magically. Our sessions were mystical, enthusiastic and incredibly productive in the most uplifting sort of way. The CD, Hold the Salt now contains that magic.
The songs are an eternal optimist’s reflection, existentially viewing a bigger picture filled with metaphoric jabs at the lives we lead, facing who we are and celebrating our individuality. Well, at least some of them are. Some are just about cutting’ loose and having some fun, after all, you only live once.
We continue on our pursuit of happiness always striving ever higher in our musical excellence. We consider ourselves “Blessed and thankful” to be able to sing a new song for our fans whom I assure…
…Furious Slugs are alive and well, and perhaps better than ever. YeeeeeeHawww!!! Furious Slugs ride again!!!
