Album Notes

Steph Furness

Founder, Aviatrix Productions

Steph is a singer/songwriter/guitarist with a serious need to facilitate some change. She sings candidly of her life experiences and welcomes others to relate their own. Influenced by folk greats such as Ani DiFranco and Cheryl Wheeler, as well as local NJ artists such as Kate Evans, Steph melds traditional folk styles (i.e. Joan Baez) with blues, funk, punk and sometimes rock.

Steph's debut cd, "aviatrix", was released in June 2002 and is available at www.cdbaby.com. She has an ep due out on Aviatrix Productions in November (and will also be available on cdbaby).

Steph's record label/distro/pr engine, Aviatrix Productions, will serve as a promotion community for female musicians, as well as other female artists, who challenge the current order with their creations.

Steph's song "Not Completely Free" was accepted in May 2002 to a compilation put together by Michelle Malone, which was distributed at concerts played by artists on SBS Records and via purchases made at Daemon Records, Amy Ray's record label. Another of Steph's songs, "Build It Up", won third place in the summer of 2002 in a national songwriting contest.

I enjoyed her CD and think it's very impressive for a first album, but I've seen her live recently and, after hearing her new songs, I look forward to hearing her sophomore album. : ) Very talented, great songwriter.

Steph's CD is really invigorating and fresh with its cutting edge lyrics, great guitar strums and contemporary honest lyrics. I think she's an up and coming talent and a voice that should be heard. More power to her, and hope she continues to share the music...

i really dig this cd -- she's got a traditional folk thing going on, but it's not BORING. she's sexy, candid and occasionally political. i'd pop "aviatrix" in on a rainy day to liven my mood... or on a sunny day to revel in it. : )
