Album Notes

Future Self first formed in late 2008 in Atlanta, GA. The group was spearheaded by songwriters Will Mitchell and Joe Koubek (former members of Boston-based Chet).
Their debut record, Debt to a Muse, was recorded over the span of 2008 and 2009 and contains six songs written, recorded, and produced by Will and Joe. The songs were written on top of programmed audio samples which were then replaced with real drums with the help of drummer Jeff Thal.

The music has feelings of musical theater, dream pop, indie rock, and sometimes bluegrass. Their songs take inspiration from many artists including Bjork, The Eels, The National, Luna, Regina Spektor, Modest Mouse, Nick Drake, The Mountain Goats, The Flaming Lips, and Radiohead.

The record was released on July 31st, 2009 (Will's 26th birthday).

Future Self reformed in the summer of 2009 after Joe relocated to Florida. The new line-up includes Will, Shim Gartner, Ben Williams, and Jaron Pearlman.

When not recording or performing or watching bad television, Future Self likes to play croquet in local parks.

Brilliant, bouncy, and totally boss

Going from the pulsing rock of “A Certain Fool” to the sad ballad of “Hung Up On You”, the songwriting is always smart & pointed. Listen carefully, Future Self’s got lots of good stuff to say. “Looked for You” is definitely my favorite, but really all of the songs are just great, and can definitely be listened to repeatedly.
