Album Notes

Inspired by the richness of southern culture, Gabbie's song is a song of hope, faith and triumph. Its absolutely, obvious that this young lady has taken a few classes from the old school. To watch her interact with an audience takes you back to those unrehearsed interpersonal jam sessions made famous by the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin and Nina Simone. With her debut independent release "Certified Soul", Gabbie brings to the table an impressive musical collection that has been certified, stamped, and approved by listeners as "quality" music. Songs like "Sunshine & Colors" and "Somethin' So... " echo beautiful melodies that ooze warm jazz tones and textures. With perfect pitch and control she breaths new life into any musical environment presenting herself with confidence, style and grace.

Born and raised in the heart of the Mississippi Delta, (Greenville, MS) Gabbie McGee is a singer by design. With a voice that can rage like an angry storm, or flow as soft as a mellow stream; Gabbie uses a creative concoction of blues, jazz, and soul to draw listeners into her world of sunshine and colors. This self proclaimed "Country Gal" is what the industry calls the total package. A proud graduate of the historic Jackson State University, Gabbie's resume boasts musical accomplishments that far exceed her years. She began her journey at the age of 4 harmonizing with her Grandfather Charlie as he would sing hymns on the front porch during lazy summer evenings. It is because of those impromptu vocal lessons that Gabbie stands today as a young singer, songwriter and pianist who is no stranger to the intricate creative process of developing good music for the soul.

The former Miss Black Atlanta (2002) has honed her craft by showcasing her rich mezzo-soprano vocals and mesmerizing stage presence during Miss America Preliminary Pageants, Off-Broadway musicals, The Showtime at the Apollo Summer Tour 2001 and numerous charity events. In September of 2007, Gabbie was personally selected by Congressman Bennie G. Thompson as the featured entertainment for the 2007 Congressional Black Caucus Annual Legislative Conference in Washington, D.C. She was also featured during an episode of TBS Storyline as a "Community Gem" along with Atlanta Falcons owner Arthur Blank. Very recently, Gabbie toured Southeast Asia and Singapore as the featured vocalist for the esteemed Harry's International Jazz Bar.

Embodied with a giving spirit and sweet, yet sassy southern girl charm; Gabbie has a burning desire to bring back the "beauty" of music. She prides herself in creating music that captivates listeners with sincerity, motivating messages and timeless grooves. She has the God given ability to tap into the very essence of life and human emotion by singing the pains, joys, hopes and dreams we all share as a common bond.

Brilliant yet troubling
author: Davari Speaks
When I first put this cd in my player, I too was amazed at the majesty of this woman's voice. There is a long and powerful tradition of Negro Women spirituals that long precedes Mrs. Mcgee...and I can hear the bessie Smiths, the billie holidays, the Shannons in this woman. It is within this revelation that the magnificence and the personal destruction of this cd seems to magnify itself upon the wanton soul. You see, after listening to this...my own music, and the music of my peers simply no longer compares. Mrs. mcgee has set an impossible if not intolerable standard to which can no longer be met...thus earning my undying respect and disdain simultaneously. There was no need for Mrs. Mcgee to put this much brilliance in one cd. Why not spread it out over 5 years and several releases. THis is essentially what both Bachman Turner Overdrive and The J geils band accomplished...I mean, can you imagine if both "Taking Care Of Business" and "You ain't seen nothing yet" were placed on the same album? Why, that would have destroyed the 70s music scene as we know it. I have seen this kind of blatant selfishness and altruism before, but I guess.....I guess in this day and age I expected more. Bravo Mrs. Mcgee... and Shame on you as well.... There was no reason for you to do this to your fans.... and yet, I find myself purchasing copy after copy of this to share with my colleagues. I am running out of options. -Davari Speaks
