GABRIELA ANDERS
Born into a family of musicians, the Argentinean native studied classical guitar and piano in Buenos Aires while listening closely to her father, jazz saxophonist Jorge Anders. Says Gabriela, "There were so many influences when I was growing up, and I wanted to do something with them all. My father's concerts and studio work certainly affected me, as did the music of Brazil; it's so harmonically rich and so interesting melodically".
After high school, Anders decided to continue her studies in New York. After a short while, she started to do studio and club work. This work lead to two recording projects with top producer Sergio George.
Through Sergio, she had the opportunity to sing for Grover Washington Jr., Marc Anthony, Celia Cruz & Talhia.
Her ongoing exposure to music of various sensibilities and her innate ability to fuse styles and formats were abundantly revealed in a few demo tracks she made on the cheap. Shortly thereafter, Anders became one of the only artists ever signed to Warner Bros. from unsolicited material.
Gabriela Anders' 1999 debut, "Wanting", is brimming with vocal subtlety; although smooth, it is anything but simple. She wrote ten of the twelve tracks.
"Wanting" elicited much praise for Anders' vision and impassioned vocal style. Her unique blending of pop, Latin and jazz resulted in Vogue and People magazines, among others, describing Anders and her music as: "exotic and bold"; "wonderfully soulful"; and "one of the most distinctive new voices to hit the music scene in years"
Gabriela Anders continues a journey of musical excellence and introspection with her new release, "Eclectica", a collection of Brazilian, R&B and jazz- influenced songs, now including two additional tracks, "Far away" and "Love so right".
"Eclectica": a sultry, exotic sound with irresistible grooves, punctuated by intensely soulful vocals. Anders' voice seduces, and her impassioned ideas and desires are enthralling.

Produced by Sonic Soul, Eastriverjoint and Gabriela herself, Eclectica showcases Anders' ability to push traditional boundaries and transcend genres and formats while featuring some of today's most soulful musicians: Wayne Krantz, Negro Hernandez, John Benitez, Ron Lawrence, Cidinho, Café, Cliff Lyons, Rick Savage, Luis Bonilla, Hector Martignon, Vince Cherico, Hami Marqui Dair, Susan Youngblood, Sammy Merendino, Ross Traut, Reggie Hamilton and Otmaro Ruiz.
Most of the songs and lyrics are by Anders, as are the arrangements. The first single, the appealingly warm "Together Again", is Gabriela's homage to her love land, Brazil.
The Latin grooves of "Naufragio" and "Socamerengue" take you to the tropics, to bring you back with the soulful solo voice/piano performance of "Fading Light". The slinky funkiness of "What My Dreams Are Made Of" contrasts with the jazziness of "I Wait".
"Eclectica" keeps on surprising you; every track takes you on a different journey: an eclectic trip into Gabriela's sensual musical world.
Anders channels her multi-cultural musical gifts into the power of love's emotions and vulnerabilities, both personal and universal, and that is the essence of her allure.

author: Edwinbeautiful Gabriela - ... still thinking about that beautiful little Gabby in her tight 'Galaxy Girl' uniform/outfit from that one episode of that children's show on TV so long ago. I don't even remember the name of the TV show now but there was a 'Gabbie' who had parents who owned a store and on one episode she was fantasizing about her TV heroine Galaxy Girl and imagining that she was Galaxy Girl. Ah. I remember it well. Just like it was yesterday. I wonder what ever happened to Gabriela 'Gabby' "Galaxy Girl." God! She was a cutie babe. (Especially in the Galaxy Girl suit! Wow!)
Again - A highlight of a wonderful voice
author: Detlef from GermanyYes, Eclectica is again a wonderful CD by this beautiful artist. Not as good as the "perfect" album "Wanting", but absolutely above average. This voice is so marvellous that it is a pity that Gabriela hasn't got a bigger audience for her music. I watch her appearence at the 1999 Montreaux Jazz Festival (with Rick Braun and George Duke) on DVD over and over and can't get enough of it/her ;-) Greetings from Germany

Lives up to its title...

Which is a very good thing: between 'Together Again,' 'Fading Light,' and 'I Wait,' this album earns its marks quite easily.

Another display of remarkable talent

Unlike her first CD, which I loved, this one brings different elements that show the range of her musical brilliance. Like U Do and Pearls And Gold are my favorites. They capture the sultry aspects of her essence. Like no other female artist, Gabriela tunes leave you longing for more. If you do not have this CD--buy it. It’s worth the price of pearls and gold.

She's got the Goods!
author: Mitch McKayFellow Gabriela fans, I have closely followed and immensely enjoyed Gabriela Ander's work for several years now (I actually saw her perform in San Diego at the KiFM 98.1 Smooth Jazz Festival a couple of years ago). She was incredible! I have many of her CDs, including "Gabriela" which I picked during my visit to Spain (Seville) last November 2003. I can't understand why Warner Brothers would not release it in the USA? It has several very good tracks! I purchased the only two copies the store had and gave one to my best friend. I also have Gabriela's newest release, "Eclectica" and of course the classic "Wanting", as well many other CDs featuring her tantalizing and sexy hypnotic vocals: Casino Nights '99, WB's 1997 release "Jazz Christmas Party", etc. I also purchased a WB press release media kit for Gabriela's "Wanting" CD and it contained a beautiful photo of Gabriela..."this girl definitely has got the goods"
A great argument for going independent
author: Sean BartlettI bought "Eclectica" at one of Gabriela's shows in NYC and have had it in the player ever since. Great to hear her without the overblown production style that passes for quality these days. With Gabriela it's all about the voice and the songs, as it should be with someone with this much talent and substance. Gabriela is one of a very few that can deal rhythmically with most any style - witness the deep funkiness of track #4 - yet has the taste to not fill up every available space with meaningless scat cliches. Keep up the independent releases, girl!

a spanish speaking rickie lee jones vibe
author: Bob GainsI don't know this artist but I was surfing through and noticed a strong resemblance to the tone of Rickie Lee Jones.. more that Sade to me she seems to be like Rickie..that's a good thing....just making a comparison. I will live with this record for a while and reserve my judgement but so far so good from what I hear. I like the upbeat Latin song at the end.....very cool........
exciting and sexy

I thought she was more smooth jazz and latin......this is truly an eclectic record (thus the title) I want it because I am a fan and collect her stuff. I am hoping she will get back to more jazz on any next releases. I am hungry for a more intimate sound from her. The production on this is good but I am missing her heart....something a little more like her Warner Cd. There is one in Spain but I can't find it...... Maybe Cd baby can get it and sell it from this site

Another excellent collection from Gabriela. A well balanced set that improves on her last cd Gabriela criminaly only released in spain. There is is one track from this cd Naulragio included. This is Gabriela's sixth cd if you include the three cds issued as Beleza in japan although the tribute cd to Antonio Carlos Jobim was not Gabriela's project. Buy this cd if you want one of the best refreshing talents around
