Album Notes

Ever since her earliest shows Ilene has drawn attention and praise for her unique writing and performance style. Supported here by the ace musicianship of Marc Shulman (from Suzanne Vega's band), Steve Holley (journeyman drummer who's played with dozens of major artists, including Paul McCartney), and veteran session bassist Paul Nowinski, Ilene has put together a truly special album. "Obliviously" captures the whimsy, literacy, and heart of this one-of-a-kind songwriter. PRODUCED BY PETER GALLWAY WITH ILENE WEISS. Originally from Philadelphia, Ilene moved to Providence, RI to study at the Rhode Island School of Design then landed in Chicago for two years, where her performing really began to take shape. Moving to New York in 1980, she was quickly noticed on the folk circuit (she played regularly at the famed Folk City and has also appeared many times at the Bottom Line). As a songwriter, Ilene has been covered on record by Anne Hills and Diedre McCalla, and many others have covered her songs during live performances. In 1992 her debut CD, "Outside and Curious" (Gadfly 111591) earned her two New York Music Awards nominations. She has also been nominated for a BMI Songwriter's Award.

REVIEWS

Obliviously

This is, bar none, one of the very best CD's ever made. She is unique, funny, sassy, genuine, playful, very smart, and so very natural. I have listened to this over and over and over. Production values are quite good. Actually, this album brought me into the singer-songwriter world and I will always be grateful. Numbers 9 and 12 are instant classics for all time. Thanks Illene for such heartfelt music.
