Ricardo and Alberto Gaitan, are GAITANES, two brothers originally from Panama who have carved out a very big name for themselves worldwide for their productions, arrangements and songs which are synonymous with quality and success as well as sales for many big name artists. Both brothers showed a great interest in music from an early age, taking piano and singing lessons at the age of nine: the brothers formed their first band ‘Impakto’ on leaving school, beginning to make a name for themselves playing latin and tropical music.
In 1997, they earned the title of ‘Best New Artist’ in Panama, representing their country at the “Festival de la Canción OTI” Song Contest and in 1999 they received an offer from the legendary producer and composer Emilio Estefan JR to work with him and his Organization in Miami. The brothers moved to Miami where they started their apprenticeship and career as producers, composers, musicians, and singers. Since then, they have added their magic touch to many projects, amongst others: MARC ANTHONY. The Gaitan Brothers provided Marc Anthony with ‘Muy dentro de mi’ (recorded in english as ‘You Sang to Me’) and won both BMI and ASCAP Awards for ‘Best Song of the Year’ for this particular work which was also nominated for Premio Lo Nuestro and the Latin Billboard Music Awards…
The list of artists that GAITANES have worked and continue to work with reads like a who’s who of the bestsellers in the music industry:
GLORIA ESTEFAN (production of ‘Por un beso’; programming and vocal production on ‘No me dejes de querer’; musical production of her book for children, supported by Disney; production of her new studio album due in 2006);
RICKY MARTIN (musical adaptation of ‘Loaded’ (retitled ‘Dame mas’ in Spanish) which was nominated for Premio Lo Nuestro and Premios Juventud Awards);
JACI VELAZQUEZ (as producers of ‘Sin tí no puedo vivir’ GAITANES were nominated for a Latin Grammy as producers of the Best Pop Album of the Year);
FERNANDITO VILLALONA (for their work on ‘Ay Bueno’ GAITANES were nominated for the Latin Grammies in 2002 & 2003 as producers and composers. They also won Best Song of the Year from the BMI);
JON SECADA (production of his acclaimed last album and single ‘Si no fuera por ti’);
CARLOS BAUTE (production of his latest album, a best seller, platinum in Spain);
LA INDIA (writers and producers of ‘El hombre perfecto’ – nominated for the Premio Lo Nuestro and Premios Juventud Awards);
PAULINA RUBIO (‘Dame otro tequila’ and ‘Mia’ – nominated for the Premio Lo Nuestro, Latin Billboard Music and Premios Juventud Awards);
VICTOR MANUELLE (production of latest album ‘Travesias’ and single ‘Llore – Llore’ – nominated for the Grammy, Latin Grammy, Premio Lo Nuestro, Latin Billboard Music and Premios Juventud Awards);
MIAMI SOUND MACHINE (MSM); SHALIM; CARLOS VIVES; BANDA EL RECODO; ROGELIO MARTINEZ; JIMENA; KARYME LOZANO; ALEJANDRO MONTANER; amongst others.
Apart from these production, writing and arranging duties, GAITANES have also found time to work with Emilio Estefan Jr on several different movie projects, such as the single ‘Welcome to my Empire’ for the film ‘Empire’ (Spanish adaptation); as well as working as producers and composers for the film ‘Chasing Papi’ (their song “Taca Taca” is one of the main songs). More recently GAITANES were in charge of the musical production for the ‘Nuevas Voces de America’ (New Voices of America) show from Telemundo. At the moment, they are working on the new Gloria Estefan album which should be finished by Summer 2007 ;)
In a nutshell, GAITANES keep on going and – best of all – keep being more and more recognized for their work. Available now is their first album and single as GAITANES, a musical production which counts on the collaboration of Emilio Estefan JR, Carlos Vives and many, many more artists, writers, producers and remixers. A superb Spanish language album, it already looks set to follow the success of their other productions right up there into the higher regions of the sales charts in many different territories. With the excellent videoclip for the single ‘Monte Adentro’ and raggaeton, salsa and house remixes to propel this project into every kind of dance floor and radio play list in the world it would seem that the album ‘Monte Adentro’ will make 2007 a very GAITANES year.

I really enjoyed this CD, I'm learning to salsa dance and wanted something different. The album has good variety, the songs don't all sound the same. I loved the energy of this CD.

The critics were really onto something when these two brothers from Panama were named the “Best New Artist” for Panama in 1997. Having collaborated and worked with such notable Latin predecessors such as Gloria Estefan, Ricky Martin, Jaci Velazquez, Miami Sound Machine and many others, Gaitanes produces and delivers some of the best Latin pop in the business. Taking from various styles such as salsa, bachata, reggaeton and blending it in varying amounts with top 40 style pop, their music is immediately accessible, jovial, fun and most importantly, thoroughly danceable. Here, on their first album Monte Adentro, there are incredibly impressive chops to be heard, both vocally and instrumentally as well as in terms of songwriting and production. This is an album that will conjure images of sunshine, humidity and perfect sand beaches- don’t miss out on it!
