Album Notes

With a voice that has been compared to Eva Cassidy, Natalie Merchant, and Linda Ronstadt, among others, Gale Mead sings with honesty and heart, whether belting the blues, singing tenderly of love and loss, or expressing her passionate concern about the troubled times in which we live. Her love of great music was nurtured at an early age listening to her father’s Billie Holiday records and her mother’s Beatles collection. She draws inspiration from singer-songwriters like Gordon Lightfoot and Joni Mitchell, and folk-rock legends like Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young and Bob Dylan. She relishes singing music in a wide variety of genres, her voice, at once angelic and powerful, providing the unifying thread.

The band's sound has evolved to emphasize acoustic guitar and piano, highlighting the astonishing depth and range of Gale’s vocal expressiveness. In addition to her original songs, many written in collaboration with bandmate Joe Pfifer, Gale has scoured the world of music for songs that speak to her heart, and has made them her own.

A Napa, CA native, Gale completed her Masters degree in Psychology in 1995, and subsequently traveled the world as a nature writer, underwater videographer and submersible pilot, including a five-year expedition with the National Geographic Society. In 2003, she turned her focus to developing her vocal, guitar, and songwriting skills. She has performed in various North Bay venues since December 2004.
