The Gamble Brothers Band has taken their special mixture of modern soul and bluesy funk to such noteworthy venues as New Orleans and Chicago's House of Blues, Memphis in May's Beale Street Music Festival, and New York City's Lincoln Center's Out of Doors series. They've shared stages with acclaimed artists including Buddy Guy, Morris Day and the Time, Robert Randolph, Southern Culture on the Skids, the North Mississippi Allstars, the Jazz Mandolin Project and Alvin Youngblood Hart.
GBB's most recent release, Back to the Bottom, received critical acclaim from such national publications as Paste Magazine, An Honest Tune, Blues Revue, Loud Magazine and Car Audio and Electronics.
"These Memphis marauders get more bang out of four pieces than most bands get out of twice as many, locking on to a groove that combines soul, jazz and blues roots with a sparkling pop sensibility like that of Steely Dan, stated Hal Horowitz, Blues Revue.
They've come a long way since early 2001 when Al Gamble and his brother, Chad, started doing gigs in Memphis. Al handles keyboard and lead vocals, while Chad is on drums. They recruited tenor saxophonist, Art Edmaiston a few months later and added bassist, Blake Rhea, who in late 2003, replaced original bassist Will Lowrimore.
The band started writing and, within a few months, began recording their debut album, 10 Lbs. of Hum. In May 2003, GBB signed with Archer Records to record Back to the Bottom. Two months later they became the 2003 winners of the Independent Musicians World Series in Nashville, beating out 1,200 other bands and walking away with $35,000 in prizes. They have been nominated three times as Memphis Best Band at the Memphis Premier Players Awards, a National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences event.
What's next for the Gamble Brothers Band? In addition to performing live, they are presently working on material for a new release scheduled for completion late next year. "We want to take it to the highest level," Al explained. "We want to keep doing what we're doing, continue on a creative path, and let the music tell us where to go."

excellent follow-up to 10 lbs of Hum. Overall sound quality is much better, with a bit more pop sensibility on this one. 'record store' could easily be a radio hit. these guys are out there everyday giving it their all. go see these guys live, you will be blown away!

I usually listen to my CDs only in the car, and if they're good, they get longer play time. I haven't taken this one out since I got it!
