Album Notes

On this double CD journey, Gandhi (from Costa Rica) explore the "tico" culture from the heavy edge of progressive hard rock to the laid-back rhythms of the Caribbean reggae, and sometimes both even on the same song! Football, being one of Costa Rica's passions, is reviewed in "el otro gol" - the official song for the Costa Rican team during the Korea-Japan FIFA World Cup. Argentinian Soda Stereo's "Sueles dejarme solo" rendition is another highlight. And the second CD is a complete live album itself - including many of their best songs from their previous 2 albums. Released in 2002, this limited-edition Sony Central America release is sold-out in Costa Rica and only available through CDBABY.

Gracias Gandhi!!!

Latin Band getting heavy...

Musically I prefer the "I" (input) over the "O" (output) generally because the “I” is heavier and reminds me of Dream Theatre. I can’t comment on the lyrics ‘cause I’m mono-lingual (sorry!) Here are thoughts on a few of my favorite tracks… Track 2 (Miedo) has a nice mix of guitar sounds, and I especially like the chorus (approximately at 00:45 and 1:48) - the underlying simple vocal harmony with the lead vocal is great. And the 'outro' is very nice…dreamlike…reminds me of a U2 song (can't remember the name - from The Unforgettable Fire album). I think Brian Eno had a lot of influence on the 'atmospheric' feel in U2’s music. Track 3 (Hacia Adentro) is my favorite, perhaps because it reminds me of Liquid Tension Experiment in the mixture of a heavier sound with ethnic styles of music (such as Latin and Celtic). I again like the chorus (approximately at 1:20 and 2:40), and I love the short instrumental 'bridge' which starts out strong at 3:03 with the solo coming in at 3:19, and then abruptly changing to a quieter version of the chorus. I think the accompanying solo is picture perfect - reminds me of Alex Lifeson of Rush. I also like the 'outro' which begins at 3:59…it has a 'floating' feel to it, as if it will go on peacefully forever with subtle changes along the way. The simple guitar over this part fits perfectly…kind of like a melody being repeated with different colors added. Track 4 (Procesion) has a Dream Theatre feel to it I think. I like the percussion/bass/drums, and it has another great chorus (approximately 1:04 and 1:52). The solo is great, reminding me very much of Petrucci (especially beginning at 3:23). Track 8 (LA469 V.2001) Kind of like a heavy metal dance tune. Great solo…reminds me of how Steve Morse’s (Dixie Dregs, Steve Morse Band, Deep Purple) solos which sometimes seem to soar over the underlying rhythm. Overall, I think the guitar is great, and the band creates some very 'catchy' chorus's.

Este disco de el grupo musical Gandhi está excelente! No hay comparación. Lo tiene todo, desde el famoso y difícil "rock progresivo" a el simple y alegre "reggae roots". Aprovecharía también felicitar a Gandhi con su esplendido trabajo.
