Jeremy Garcia and Rosendo Reyna met in 1992 while beginning their classical studies under the direction of Philip Hii at Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. During the next four years, the two performed together on a regular basis in guitar ensembles, duets, and even joint solo concerts. In fact, they were the first guitarists ever asked to do a joint freshmen recital at Del Mar College.
Jeremy moved on to SMU in 1996 where Rosendo joined him a year later. Once again, the two performed some of the most difficult classical duets in the repertoire, even arranging some new ones by Bach, Mozart, and Beethoven.
After receiving his master's degree in performance, Jeremy moved on to Houston and began teaching full-time at San Jacinto College South. In the meantime, Rosendo completed two master's degrees at SMU - one in education and the other in performance - before moving to Houston to head the guitar program at Kingwood College.
Upon reuniting in Houston, exactly ten years after they met and began performing together, the two collaborated in creating a Nuevo Flamenco group simply called "Garcia y Reyna."
In the summer of 2003 they met Jim Bedinghaus, a self taught percussionist from Houston with a special flare for the African djembe drum. Influenced by great players such as Babatunde Olatunji and Mamady Keita, he has been performing locally for 12 years and continues to perform and record with the Celtic band, "The Flying Fish Sailors".
That same summer they also met Richard Saldivar, an incredible multi-instrumental musician who began performing professionally at the age of 15. His primary influence was his father and band leader, Jose Saldivar. Richard is well versed in many styles and adds his own unique flare to the music through the use of both his bass guitar and saxophone.
Jeremy and Rosendo were proud to welcome both Jim and Richard aboard for this recording and enjoy their wonderful contributions to the music. Garcia y Reyna performs regularly in the Houston area at upstanding venues as well as appearing private parties, weddings and corporate engagements, playing primarily original repertoire consisting of their own compositions and arrangements. Many of these songs can now be heard on their debut CD, released June 5, 2004 - Baile del Sol.
In the summer of 2007, Jeremy went solo and in the summer of 2008 released a new cd under Cafe Khytaro. Be sure to check it out on CD Baby!
