Album Notes

VERY FEW COPIES REMAIN AVAILABLE!

Half The Man is an album like no other.

Not only does it contain beautifully haunting, stripped-down versions of some of McCartney’s finest solo songs, it is (as far as is known to us at Crockett Records) the only McCartney tribute album devoted to his solo work recorded by a single artist.

On 18th June 2006, Sir Paul McCartney – the man who wrote ‘When I’m Sixty-Four’ – was himself 64 years old. David released Half The Man as a personal celebration of this, and the fact that he turned exactly half Macca’s age two days previously.

David says: “I realised the pop-significance of Sir Paul’s birthday in 2006, and then it dawned on me that I would be exactly half his age at the time. I thought this would be the perfect opportunity to pay some kind of homage to the man whose all-round musicality I admire more than anyone. From an initial idea of maybe doing a special performance somewhere, 30 seconds later I’d decided only a full-blown tribute album would suffice!”

Including well-known hits such as ‘No More Lonely Nights’ and ‘Silly Love Songs’, plus more obscure gems like ‘Waterfalls’ and ‘Distractions’, it will appeal to both the hardcore Macca fan and people who simply appreciate acoustic music and good songwriting.

Featuring David’s wife and Birmingham Conservatoire graduate Elizabeth Garside on ‘cello, the interplay between David’s voice, guitar, piano and Liz’s classical elements creates a very unique atmosphere.

David: “I’m glad to have done my bit to introduce more people to Paul McCartney’s solo work, which is all too often overlooked. Happy birthday, Paul!”

There's probably less than 10 McCartney tributes in the World and most are American but this one is from Birmingham England. Using guitar and cello as the main instruments is unusual in itself and compares to early James Taylor who cut his first album at Apple. The songs are not the most obvious as Garside chooses little known album tracks that have never been covered before such as Dress me up as a robber. The last track is his own song Old Fashioned Man

Great arrangements of great songs!

I'll treasure this CD for years to come. I've heard a few Beatles and solo-work tribute efforts but this is easily the best. Great selection of lesser known album tracks. Golden Earth Girl - nice! The arrangements are what makes the cd I think. Lovely cello playing throughout and pure, intimate vocals. Fab guitar solo on Dress Me Up! If you like to hear honest music without any unnecccesary adornments then this is for you. Especially if you're a big Beatles fan like me! Great sentiment behind the CD too. Well done.

A really fresh take on some forgotten classics

This is a well thought and executed tribute to one of the most influential songwriters and performers of all time. David Garside has chosen the tracks well and done more than merely make passable copies of the originals. These versions are very much how I would imagine McCartney might reprise the tracks if he was so inclined. My only criticism is that some of the subtleties are all too easily overlooked if you are listening to this CD whilst doing something else. This CD deserves your full attention and you'd be daft to give it anything less.
