Here is some very detailed information on "The Father" of Digital Media- Laurence Gartel:

LAURENCE GARTEL is a founding "PIONEER" of the Digital Art movement. Gartel could also be considered the father of the paintbox era (circa 1986), who actually started this technique 10 years prior to any software being written for painting and photo-manipulation. He used digital synthesizers, TVs and then output photographically as a dyesub & Polaroid prints. It was also 10 years before Warhol did his Amiga prints of Deborah Harry.

His work has been exhibited at the Museum of Modern Art, Joan Whitney Payson Museum, Long Beach Museum of Art, Princeton Art Museum, PS 1, Norton Museum and in the permanent collections of the Smithsonian Institution's Museum of American History and the Bibliotheque Nationale. His biography for his pioneering efforts is included in "Who's Who," "Who's Who in the East," "Who's Who in America," "Who's Who in American Art," and "Who's Who in the World."

Born and raised in New York City, Mr. Gartel had the opportunity to teach Andy Warhol how to use the Amiga Computer, went to School of Visual Arts, with fellow art student, grafitti artist Keith Haring, where he earned his BFA degree majoring in Graphics, and started his electronic career working side by side with Nam June Paik at Media Study/Buffalo in upstate New York.

Gartel had many associations with musicians such as Debbie Harry (Blonde) Sid Vicious (Sex Pistols), Stiv Bators (Dead Boys) Johnny Thunders (New York Dolls) Ace Frehley (Kiss) and Wendy O Williams (Plasmatics). Recently, Gartel has created artwork for such Pop Culture stars such as Justin Timberlake and Britney Spears.

LAURENCE GARTEL breaks all the rules once again as he brings to the music and entertainment industry a new vision. Mixing photography, graffiti, 3D computer graphics, animation, paint and video, here is GARTEL's first fusion of art and music in the new genre of Digital Video (DVD). Each track is like a mini movie. This project allows people to have their own rave party.

  • Best Multi-Media DVD I have seen in a Decade!

    Anyone into multi-media production knows or should know who Laurence Gartel is. This guy was doing Paintbox, Photoshop, Quark, and the likes before there was Paintbox, Photoshop, Quark, etc. Actually before there were home PC's! If you are interested in multi-media, animation or photography this DVD is a must. If you are into surround sound with visuals that will literally make you dizzy, then this DVD is a must. Thousands of Students at Universities all over the Country are trying to develop what is already on this DVD, so get it, and it will most certainly help you achieve a new vision. The "Father of Digital Media" Laurence Gartel is back, and we are all going to benefit from it. This DVD should be number 1 on Amazon, and it will take customers like you and I to help get it there. You can sample and hear some of the product at www.gartelraveparty.com, however the little pictures just do not do justice to the actual DVD. CD Baby has a Fantastic price. Buy it. I think you will thank me.

    I have never seen nor heard anything like this in my life. I actually got dizzy. There are alot of great and talented Artists on CD Baby, but nothing like this. Once you see what I am talking about you will understand. It is worth every penny of the $16.98. Click the Gartel Website and you can listen to samples of all the tracks, as well as view a small image (which does not do the DVD justice, but gives you an idea). I saw some of Gartel's works at the Smithsonian, and when they were on display the the Modern Museum of Art in NYC, but nothing like this. This guy is the Andy Warhol of the new Digital Age. Wow. I would not recommend this for Children under 13, there are some pretty intensive images.

    If you are not familiar with Laurence Gartel, this review will not mean much to you, but if you have ever seen his works displayed at one of the major museums, or shows, then you will know what a gem this DVD really is. They have taken thousands of his visuals, timed them to some fantastic, trance, dance, and electronic music, added, video, paint box, motion, and everything else you can imagine, and threw in surround sound for good measure. You will be hypnotized by the visuals, and disappear into the world of Gartel. It is truly a mind trip, and worth the $16.98. Amazon is selling it for $20.68 so CD Baby has a great price. Stop following the pack, and try something you may not understand, but will be glad you experienced. This is the guy that started it all, and he has put it all on the line for us to enjoy.

    I bought the DVD, I played it at my Club on our Big Screen and cranked up the volume. The place was slammin! Everyone got up to watch the DVD, and then started dancing to the General Degree Miss Gorgeous track as well as several of the other tracks. If you are a DJ looking for something different this is the bomb.
