Album Notes

"Life, Love & Pain" is the second album done by The Gatlin/Smith Duo. The album was recorded in 2002, at D'Mann's Studio, in New Orleans, Louisiana. TG|SD is inspired by the soulful sounds of Motown and Stax. In this CD, which is signed up for digital distribution only, we hope to have captured the aura of those two great soul manufacturers.

You might notice that the the song "A Better Man" sounds close to what Motown would have done for, the late great, David Ruffin. We must mention Philadelphia International also. Therefore, it could sound like a tenor Teddy Pendergrass. "The Off And On Woman" reminds us of, the great Stax artist, Johnny Taylor. Thentoo, "Education" just might remind you of, the late great Motown artist, Marvin Gaye. Don't worry, nobody can imitate him. However, there are a whole lot of us wanna be's out there. "Let's Always Stay Together" will, we hope, remind you of, the late great Stax artist, Otis Redding. We love all of these artists. They are professionals of the best. The true teachers of soul. We don't want to let their art die. We want to give you some old soul in the styles of TG|SD.

Hey, if you had the ability to do so. Wouldn't you like to write a song for the great artists who have fallen asleep in death and imagine what they might be doing today. Use your imagination and let TG|SD take you on a journey from the past to the future. It's just a click of the mouse away. Nevertheless, you young folks should get this cd for your grandma and grandpa as an anniversary gift. They would be thrilled and invite you over for some good ol'fashioned soul food. What more motivation do you need!
