Gaucho plays a modern band interpretation of jazz manouche, more commonly known as gypsy jazz or gypsy swing. It was invented by Django Reinhardt in the 1930's when he triangulated American jazz with Parisian bal musette and traditional gypsy music.

Gaucho started as a gypsy jazz group in 2002. Their sound is unique, with influences that range from the modern gypsy sounds of Birelli Lagrene, Stocholo Rosenberg and the Robin Nolan Trio to the foundation laid down by Django Reinhardt, Louis Armstrong and Gus Viseur.
The line-up consists of Dave Ricketts and Michael Groh (guitars), Rob Reich (accordion) and Ari Munkres (bass). Over the last couple of years they have been joined every Wednesday night by the one-man musical universe of Ralph Carney (Tin Huey, Tom Waits, Carneyball Johnson) on wind instruments and drummer extraordinaire Pete Devine adding a special touch with his custom kit, complete with Chinese temple blocks, washboard and cheeks.
This sextet is the band that has recorded the new CD "Deluxe". In addition, special guest and multi-instrumentalist Clint Baker adds his expertise on a couple of tunes playing trumpet and bass. The album was recorded in the fall of 2006 at Fantasy Studio's famed Studio A by the acclaimed recording engineer Stephen Hart with a special assist by Max Bacchin coming in all the way from Italy for the project.
Gaucho achieves a singular acoustic voice rooted in the present day. Enjoy.

Flawless

This album is perfect, the accordian provides a traditional french sound whilst the rest of the band hold the quality essence of Reinhardt. One of the best records I own, truly astounding and fresh. Worth every penny.

Saw them live and was sold. Their great sense of humor shines through each song...but seriously, a great band and a great album.
