ARTIST BIO - GAVRI :

Australian studio based musician, composer & producer Robert Chomicz is the artist behind the name GAVRI. Meaning “Celebration of Life”, the word GAVRI originates from India. Robert is a musician on a journey of fusion, uniting the traditional instruments and exotic voices of the East with the sounds and production techniques of the West.

His debut album “Global Inspiration” is a musical testament to his experiences in Tanzania, Kenya and India where many of the original voices were recorded. From being questioned by police while capturing street sounds in Mumbai to recording some very enthusiastic East African locals in Zanzibar, the GAVRI journey has been a memorable one.

The self produced album melds cutting edge beats and smooth electronica with diverse instruments and vocals from around the world, giving it an organic and uplifting sound with a modern groove.

“Music has given me the opportunity of meeting extraordinary people. Each of them has shown me a different perspective, a different angle with which I have been able to broaden my own horizons, leading me a step further into yet another unexplored territory.”

Earlier in his career Robert was involved in mixing live sound for bands along with writing and playing original songs. As he developed an affinity for the production aspects of music, he began working on solo projects. “ There’s nothing more satisfying than being able to create an entire song or soundscape as opposed to only being responsible for a single instrument”.

As his studio grew so did the variety of musical projects he was involved with. From composing music for Film & Television projects to working as a Sound Designer and location Sound Recordist, he has never stopped broadening his musical horizon.

ALBUM HIGHLIGHTS:

“Remember the Day” is the opening track on the album Global Inspiration. As the tablas beat to emotive piano melodies, kantele and santur strings resonate with electronic overtones. A heartfelt collaboration of indigenous sounds and a beautiful impression of cross culture, featuring voices from Senegal.

“This world is not my home, I am just passing through” … recorded on a midnight train from Brindisi to Naples, a girl from Cameroon sings of her “Gloryland”, Track 11. Her call is innocent, echoing the mystique of “Global Inspiration”.

“Bombastic” Track 10 fires with modern dance rhythms and commanding drums, strings and lively horns. A boy’s ascending chants burst into mighty calls of Indian celebration, transporting you to the heart of Mumbai mayhem.

“Iddy’s Song” Track 4 (recorded in Tanzania) offers the perfect platform for Tanzanian singer, Iddy Ally. The calls of African children join Iddy’s soulful voice, layered with textured guitars & solid bass grooves. A myriad of amazing sounds and delightful interactions, unmistakably GAVRI.

Place your hearing deep within the tracks ...and you shall SEE!
author: Scott Joffroy
SIMPLY AMAZED! I sat back, put on my over-the-ear headphones, pressed PLAY and closed my eyes. Within moments my hearing and inner vision slipped deep within the S-P-A-C-I-O-U-S and (((HYPNOTICALLY RHYTHMIC)))tracks. Talk about 'experiencing' an inner world of existential bliss! This masterpiece brought a dose of clarity to my spiritual blindness. For 56.6 minutes the vail was lifted and ...I could SEE. I can't wait to get home from work so I can experience it again! Thank you GAVRI!
