Children's folk album featuring clever word play
author: William and the RadioIndy.com Reviewer Team
"Toodala - Front Porch Favorites" by Gayle Schmitt is a children's folk album filled with energy and lovely harmonies. Schmitt teaches music and movement to kids, proving she knows her craft well. This is no average home-made album either. The musicianship is superb, the arrangements are lively and creative, Schmitt's vocals are well-performed, and her lyrics are fun and exciting. This album is composed of wonderful layers and great fills on each track. The Toodala Ramblers that back Schmitt are all members of professional bluegrass and old-time bands. The title track "Toodala" kicks off the album with a bang. It features some skilled guitar plucking and clever word play from Schmitt. Listeners will recognize "Ain't No Bugs on Me" from its commercial success. It is a perfect fit in this collection as well. "All Around the Kitchen" is infectious, fun, and will get the kids moving from the vocal instruction. Parents, children, and fans of children’s folk songs will love “Toodala – Front Porch Favorites” by Gayle Schmitt.
